Advertising for Online Website

Hi Rodinhooders !!

I’m the Co-Founder of an E-Commerce portal for Art & Fashion Jewelry ( www.VastradiJewels.com ) . As of now we are concentrating of Facebook ads to generate leads for our website. Next month we are planning to spend more towards promoting our business but are stuck on the idea of how to allocate this budget to get the maximum ROI and where to spend. It would be great if you could advice on which path should we take and what to expect out of it.

TIA !!

  6. User Experience:
Fix the page speed load times . Google for  “Google Page Speed Insights Tool” Sit on heads of your developers if need be and insist on server optimization / caching solution. Magento is a resource beast

    SEO:
Optimize robots.txt , sitemap.xml , enable structured markup extension, fix internal canonicalization
Sign up for Google Webmaster central & Bing webmaster central

    PPC:
Focus on long tail direct marketing campaigns initially for cash-flow.
Definitely enable remarketing from the word go to build list size. ( update your privacy policy )
Upload product feeds to Google merchant center / do PLAs, explore ebay/amazon & other applicable marketplaces too with existing traffic.
Split test your conversion funnels like crazy!

    Social:
Go beyond FB. Think omni-channel. Think targeted offline event marketing too.
Definitely use image heavy sites like Instagram & Pinterest for content marketing / brand awareness.

    Analytics & Conversion Rate Optimization:
Google for Google Analytics Solutions gallery. Import custom dashboards by Google Analytics Team and one by Justin Cutroni ( you can try others too ) Act on the insights to drive conversion optimization

    Bonus Tips:

    • Fire your developer ! ( harsh I know but trust me ).
One glance at your website from a structural perspective tells me that they obviously operate in  a design/development silo which is a primary reason why 96% e-ventures fail.
    • Google for Magento Certified Partners for finding a replacement.
    • Google for Adwords Certified Partners for finding a good PPC agency
    • Google for analytics qualified indivudial directory for finding a GA pro who can make data sing

Definitely hire a consultant who gets integrated digital marketing across the funnel. I’d suggest check out guy named Abey John here.

  7. Some really good suggestions Yatin. The most important being Magento is a resource beast. I am going to pick all these suggestions mentioned by you and act on them immediately.

The Google Page Speed Insights powerfully pin-points every area that can be optimized for faster load time. One of the so-called leading names in web-dev outsourcing had done my website and it’s not surprising that I find my website faring extremely poor in most of the areas of page speed insights. The front end may look neat and all tidy, but that’s not enough.

  8. hi Yatin

can you please tell me what is design/development silo

  9. Silo is basically the proper site structure…

    Where similar content is interlinked…

This is the best resource for silo https://www.bruceclay.com/seo/silo.htm

  10. Coolsville! Btw, you can’t  optimize *every* area pointed by the tool for beyond a certain point if you try to minify, things might break BUT just  attending to partial list of issues like caching can propel your score into the 90s and improve UX.

Definitely optimize your robots.txt for preventing the bots from crawling unnecessary things and hogging server resources .  Here’s  a  sample file  https://inchoo.net/ecommerce/ultimate-magento-robots-txt-file-examples/ ( Adapt file paths wherever applicable! )

    @ Sasitharani / Akshat,

I didn’t mean silo from site Information Architecture pov, but rather from the breadth of functional expertise ( or the lack of ) perspective.

An estore development company is supposed to know or have someone on the team that knows the basics of search engine friendly development and how it fits into the overall product life cycle.

Here, OP’s dev team has not enabled extremely basic things like optimized robots.txt ,  sitemap.xml, etc. These things have a direct bearing on the crawl depth, crawl frequency, indexation, etc & become important  if a startup depends to a certain extent on the organic traffic as one of the marketing channel for customer acquisition.

    Hope this clarifies.

  11. Some really great suggestions Yatin . Currently our development is outsourced to a friend and we are we are seriously wanting to move out. But since the Venture is Self Funded and we are low on cash, we’d like to know how much percentage of revenue and money in absolute terms we should assign for these tasks.

  12. Very very confused ASK:

    WHY are you spending?

Is it ONLY leads or branding or both?

    What is ROI for you?

  13. Can’t comment on that since I don’t know your financial metrics but thankfully most of the things I suggested in terms of strengthening the foundation ( page speed for UX /server optimization/sitemap / robots / webmaster central registrations ) are more or less one time tasks  & shouldn’t not cost a bomb  for sure. (I’d assume sub-100 usd)

If I were to be in your shoes,  I’d be spending my resources in the following order 1) page speed 2) making the site much more trustworthy to a point people would feel comfortable buying high AOV merchandize 3)PPC aimed at cash flow gen 4) analytics focused solely on conversions.

  14. Alok … Confused is the word for sure 🙂 But in here when I think why we are spending now, then the one thing that shines out is Leads . As of now not focusing on Branding but we need to get more and more sales for us.
ROI for us would mean that if I spend ‘x’ amount of money how much of Revenue are we going to generate. We have generated 10x revenue from FB ads around 6 months back and currently stuck at 2.5x and 4x  of revenue

  15. I would like to help you with this as I am digital marketer.

You want to do paid marketing so in my experience Google Adwords is the best source to get clicks and leads.

Start investing in adwords setup daily budget according to search keywords and competition. I feel that your website looks so ugly (No offence) Website should look professional and user experience should be in first preference.

  16. Thanks Mansoor for the feedback. Can you please elaborate more on the Google Adwords part? We tried doing it few months back and found it really expensive. Can you please give us an idea of the ROI we should expect out of it?

    Regards

  17. There is 2 way to market using Adwords.

1 – Search Network – You pay per click

2- Display Network – You pay per 1000 Impression (clicks within this doesn’t cost you)

There is so much technical part in this you can start by reading Google support
