Breaking Out and Making Big – A Review

Who is this book for?

First time and MVP stage entrepreneurs.

Starting up is a delicate process, entirely intuitive in its nature with focus & initiative being the key traits to get up and execute. There are multiple books on every aspect of management and inspiring stories of CEOs who could make it. However, what a first time startup entrepreneur looks for is clear analysis and a plan to follow. Rudrajeet Desai (author), in this book, manages to build a structured approach one can use to get things off the ground. The author recognizes that entrepreneurship defines the way you live your life, and how your individual competencies underlines your way of working.

What is awesome?

The flow of the book is natural. From conceptualizing to solid execution, Rudra makes us question our every decision thus helping us be sure of what we’re doing. It starts with a reasonable idea, ensuring its viability. Execution involves people for feedback and team work. Moving forward needs funds (raised and self generated) and growth needs a structure. In the end, as a startup is established and shows signs of evolving into a company, ensuring the survival of its soul is essential. The questions we seek in our numerous conversations with multiple people (adorned with varying perspectives) over a period of months are now available through this text, which makes for a compelling read.

What we need to remember.

The trick always lies in filtering opinions of others and forming an independent one. While Rudra suggests certain ways of going about starting up, the speed of our journey and the need to analyze certain aspects is subjective. The reader ought to apply Rudra’s suggestions as he sees fit, irrespective of the mentioned context or order. Only the wearer knows where his muddy shoe bites.

My favorite bits.

You connect to Rudra while reading this, because he brings forth and answers the little questions at the back of your mind. From delving into a CEO’s job profile, discussing the co-founder marriage to breaking down marketing to its basics- he serves you samples to gobble. There’s little left to do but execute once you’re done reading this.

Grab it 🙂

  2. Thanks, Rudra, not sure how I missed replying to this 🙂 And it’s wonderful how this book is already inspiring so many people around me. An experienced techie turned entrepreneur (app studio, first product is in telecom space) I’ve known since a while sought inspiration from your book, and mentioned in passing that he was keen to get connected as well.
