Dwelling on your Dwelling: Finding a Startup Office

In any large metropolis, you’ll find entrepreneurs who have made a home office a reality. The city provides an alluring location, but the expense is obscene, especially for companies that are just starting up. Many budding entrepreneurs choose to start in a home office.  And in working from home, the magical line between the bed and the desk soon disappears.

You can use your flexibility to your advantage if you don’t have a traditional office, though. Just remember, cubicle-dwellers across the world would gladly trade their cage to have your 15 second commute.

Unfortunately productivity can wane when your workspace is lonely and messy.  To escape the monotony of your home office, you can go to coworking spaces and coffee shops. Sharedesk is a resource to find temporary desk space and on-demand office mates. You may even want to search for a list of places with free wifi in your quest for an ideal place to work. Alternatively, you can be your own wifi provider, and carry a hotspot. We’ve also used libraries, public spaces, hotel lobbies, and parks to set up shop for the day.

Good luck finding a cordoned-off spot to optimize your output. And now, back to work!

Tell us about your quest to find the perfect spot to work. Let us know in the comments below.

I’ll be teaching a workshop in Delhi on Sunday, Oct 27th and unveiling some never-before-seen comics.  Come and learn some brainstorming hacks! Would love to meet you in person.

  1. Just to add to the post and collect information at a single place.

Work from Home (SOHO) Small Office Home Office works for almost all Entrepreneurs to start up with however, I would leave the Legal eagles and Policy Experts to point out how would this be looked at, when there is a Requirement to Register a Company “Could it be done on a Residential Address to be used as the Registered address of the Concern”

Or A Commercial Place (Owned or Rented is secondary for now) is the only Way to Get this requirement completed to start with ?

Since a Lot of Residential (Originally as per Agreements) Properties, a lot of Old Buildings and also Bungalows function as a Commercial setup for One or more Companies together or as a Shared space, some examples could be 4 Bungalows, Versova, Bandra and South Mumbai Buildings, Bungalows are used as Office or Company address in Jaipur, Punjab, Delhi etc as well too how does this differentiate than any other Ways to remove the confusion ? There could be similar examples in other cities as well too.

Though There is a list of Co Working spaces on another Post as below :

Q : Can we Register a company using the address provided by these coworking space?
A : No. Unfortunately, it is not possible to Register a company using a coworking space.

(Seems to be the answer for this as of now)

Coworking hub Owner Shenaz Haveliwala of SOBO Connect, Fort Feels not all require the WIFI as a Pre requirement though the Ones having a need usually use their own Dongles / Data cards.
    Cheers!!

  2. Awesome roundup of info…

  3. Well, a private limited company can be incorporated with a residential address. 🙂

When it comes to getting a Sales Tax Registration, the inspectors will expect a board outside the home / office.

(In some residential apartments, the association might not allow for such a board)

The point is: the registered office address can be, say, your house in Himachal Pradesh while your actual place of business could be in Bangalore!
