CraftsNation an initiative to “Unite, Inspire and Promote Indian handicrafts” the e-com way.

My dear Rodinhooders, I am a first generation e-commerce entrepreneur of my family from the “City of Joy” Kolkata who dared to dream, dream really big not only for myself but for the people who will be with me in this roller coaster journey of entrepreneurship. Being a corporate junky for almost 11 years, I finally decided to take the plunge into the entrepreneurial ocean and after a long eight months of digging up and research, I finally decided to give the somewhat unorganized and underexposed Indian handicrafts industry a more organized structure, specifically for the extremely talented yet extremely poor and superbly exploited artisans of my country.

Finally in January 2014, I launched my e-commerce web store www.craftsnation.in, dedicated to the artisans of India, through which an artisan established in even the remotest village in India, who in other ways is either dependent on the government agencies or the middlemen to sell their products, can now showcase and sell his or her creations directly to the customer all across the globe, without the intervention of any middlemen and can earn some extra mullahs.

I started running  www.craftsnation.in on the drop shipping model where we directly met with the artisan, presented them with our idea and how it can benefit them, click product images, and voila!, the next  thing, the world can start buying the exotic art work of India with just a click of a mouse. And the best part is, it’s absolutely FREE to display & sell your artwork at craftsnation. We also provide FREE SHIPPING of products across India for the customers.

We have lots of other future plans to make this initiative of mine a success, requesting you all to visit my store www.craftsnation.in and give your suggestions and inputs about how this initiative can be a success both socially and commercially.

  1. Way to go! Its great to see an e-commerce initiative from Kolkata……

  2. Thanks a lot Partha,

  3. Hi Sankha,

I am myself from Kolkata and understand the kind of talent people have, your website could be a great platform for these talented people to showcase their art work, but I believe you need better website and pictures, since jo dikhta hai wohi bikata hai. Hence you should work on these points:

    1. Product Name & Information – Give unique names and proper information about each product. When I went to your saree, home decor, accessories etc section, every product had the same name, with no product detail. The products like these need more information. Also I notice that in product code you have same 2 to 3 words of description and it didn’t had its length, description, details etc.
    2. Product Pictures – You need to have an excellent product picture, unprofessional product photography will not work, will leave a poor impression on your customers.
    3. Models – If you cannot hire a model, then use dummy, but please don’t use your aunt, sisters etc for modeling, you need to have attractive professional models. Our relatives are not trained for modeling.
    4. Website URL – Ensure you have unique seo friendly url for the website, the current forms are out dated and doesn’t really work – something like https://www.printawallpaper.com/detail/abstract/coloured-leaf
    5. SEO – Optimize your website to get traffic from google. Hire a professional SEO company to do that – visit https://www.72interactive.in for more details.
    6. Logo – Look for a professional logo, the current logo looks more kiddish then creative.

You really need to work hard on your website, It should look like a professional website with complete product information to attract customers.  If you need professional support for building the eCommerce Store, marketing etc then feel free to get in touch with me.

    Regards,
    Amit
