Startup

Do you have an ‘Asha’ in your team ?

I joined the Rodinhoods in 2010 ( 23rd Nov, 10:03 pm to be exact 🙂 when I was researching startup ideas before moving back to India.

It was a pretty small community back then and I remember Alok welcoming us with a comment on our walls and sending an excited newsletter a week later that ‘the site had exploded over the weekend and had 350+ members’ 🙂

In a little under 3 years, this community has grown to 5878 members. Alok has always been the backbone of Rodinhoods and has tirelessly worked to make this community meaningful and rewarding for all members who join.

While Alok still continues to be very active, it’s Asha who has become the new backbone of this community – Constantly engaging with new members, actively participating in discussions, connecting people, Encouraging ideas, Organizing meetups etc etc, while also writing her daily #templetales and raising her very cute #sixyearold

Without her, I am not sure this community would be as engaged as it is today.(I say this from personal experience because there have been extended periods where I haven’t been able to write an article or participate in any of the discussions but Asha’s constant presence acts as a gentle reminder 🙂

So this brings me to the question, “Do you have an Asha in your team ?”

Everyone who has an idea and starts a business is obviously very passionate about them and is the best brand Ambassador for the product or service. However, once the growth starts and its time to scale, you will need a clone(s) of yourself – someone who is as passionate about your idea and truly believes in it.

Someone who will be your partner in crime and help propagate the idea and turn customers/members into Brand Ambassadors.

That’s why we all need an Asha in our teams 🙂

I have been running a Digital Advertising firm for a little over a year and half, where I was doing a lot of the stuff myself, apart from my employees. Had been thinking of what kind of people I need to scale up, when I realised that Alok and Asha make a great team and I needed someone like her to complement what I was doing.

I think I may have found someone similar but its still early days so keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

  1. Awesome!!

  2. :))) Abhik this is just so simple and a straight forward question yet so brilliant to ask. It’s hard to find someone who shares your vision as passionately as yourself.. It’s hard and it would always be untill unless we are as lucky as Alok ji to come across someone like Asha. I have always believed that she is a gem that keeps TRHS shining and keeps dull moments at bay always!!

  3. Nice one….. You really need someone in your team who can take care of your business when you are busy with other challenges.

  4. Kudos to Sir Alok and Asha mam

  5. My question to all Rodinhooders would be, “Do you deserve an Asha on your team?” What have you done to create/encourage/develop an Asha in your team. How much do you trust her? How much do you communicate with her? How much do you reward and recognise her? People like Asha are not just born but they are also need to be encouraged and recognised every inch of the way. They are sensitive nurturers and need to be respected as such. My question would once more be, “So what are you doing to bring an Asha to life in your venture?”

  6. Kanchan,

Very valid question. However, the point I was trying to make was, “Do you even know that you need an ‘Asha’ on your team “.

You are very right when you say that one has to nurture people in order for them to grow and succeed.

    cheers

    abhik

  7. nicely said..why u need Asha and what should have….i hope every team should have Asha in there team..

  8. Wow!!

Maybe everyone needs A #MotherRodinHood Asha – Now that would be awesome, if we could simply clone as many as all needed 🙂 Unfortunately there is Only One made Yet!!

  9. Agree with you, Varun! Introspecting is needed before one can create a  Brand Nurturer!

  10. Fair enough, Abhik. However, I think many people may realise the need for a Brand Nurturer in their organisation. It’s just that they don’t know how to go about it…. and what they need to build into their organisational values before such a person can genuinely contribute…!!!!

  11. Awesome, I loved this little article.

  12. Agree wholeheartedly!! I would like to extend the headline “No Asha for your team, without an Asha in your team” 🙂

  13. abhik,

was kinda shaken & stirred (apart from overwhelmed) when i read this post. thank you for the awesome analogy! over the weekend i shall add my 2 paise on how two team members can work well 🙂

meanwhile your post triggered another post by kaanchan 🙂

  14. Absolutely! Someone like Asha is so needed in the team to keep one going; the ray of hope..

Just a tangential perspective – I think when you are out to do good the “Asha’s” automatically fall in place 🙂

  15. abhik…

you happen to be one of the earliest members.

    guess what…. we are now 7501 🙂

  16. Awesome 🙂

Here is to adding another couple of zeroes in the coming years…you might want to clone yourself though 😉

  17. hey abhik,

i got all nostalgic when i came across this post today. we’re 10,548 rodinhooders and counting. on nov 1 we turn 5!

i recently did a chat show with prateek and akshay on building awesome communities – someone asked when did we reach out critical mass. i said in the first month itself coz 350 rodinhooders who signed up in the first month are still with us and are pillars. you are one of those pillars abhik.

thank you for being so awesome, always.

  18. ps: still haven’t cloned myself though :()

  19. Brilliant portrayal Abhik, you know what – I think combinations like Alok and Asha for Rodinhoods just happen – Rodinhood Karma you see 🙂

One can always wish for it but can never plan it, but if you are the lucky one to have it, you can for sure nurture it.

  20. #RodinhoodKarma is such a lovely coinage ashish! thank you ever so much!!

  21. i just realised it’s been 3 years since you wrote this one abhik. it makes me very emotional and nostalgic at the same go!

we’re now 12,091 members and most days i feel like cloning myself :)))

thank you for the reminder that all of us need a co-founder or a team.

and thank you for always being a huge support to me and many other rodinhooders!
