Double Daan for Kolkatans in a Week

Facebook link for details about the event

After the grand Loksabha elections in Kolkata on 12th May, where all my fellow Kolkatans reading this must have given their “Mat-daan” as I would like to believe, it is time for another daan that would make you feel proud of yourself – “Rakt-daan”. Organisers-Volunteer for a Better India.

Volunteer for a Better India(VBI) is a movement, an initiative by The Art of Living, under the grace of H.H. Sri Sri Ravishankar and it aims to shake up all the good people in the society into doing good work. This movement is to turn all the passive goodness of the people who complain about the state of the nation into the active goodness that goes out and makes a positive difference.

Though VBI is pan-India, I would speak of the Kolkata chapter where we, the volunteers of VBI did extensive work in getting people to vote since the last 6 months by getting their Voter ID cards made, grilling in people the importance of voting through nukkad nataks(street plays) and getting people out of their homes on the V-Day by going from door-to-door in several localities.

Now that elections are over, we are heading over to organising a large blood donation camp, one in each South and North Kolkata. To tell you a few reasons why you should donate blood with the Volunteer for a Better India:

1. Within 7 days of donating blood, your body develops the amount of blood you donated. This blood is healthier and gets your body system cleaner.

2. When you donate one unit of blood, it can be used by as many as 3 needy people.

3. The blood is provided to the needy completely free of cost.

4. There will be well trained people and doctors who will be present at the venue.

5. You will feel good about yourself 🙂
