  Pankaj Umrania I can very much relate to this trauma. Register an FIR followed by a legal notice, give him a lesson, your work is related to Rights, you need to protect it. Let him learn a lesson for his life.

  Dipanjan Banerjee Facing similar issues on a regular basis at work place. Sometimes I feel totally disconnected with the new generation. Their approach to 'ethics at work' is totally different.

  Pankaj Umrania Dipanjan you have touched d right chord. I see with this new generation majorly, they take companies and work ethics on ride. As an entrepreneur I take this as one of my moral responsibility to get such guys on track and explain general work ethics. Those who have sense will grow, others I am sure will be doing this for the rest of their careers and won't be able to grow (vertically).
  I have examples where people have left overnight smoothly just after a healthy discussion with their bosses (including myself), similarly I have seen companies parting their ways overnight on mutual grounds with the employees. All it takes is speaking your heart out in a correct way.

  Dipanjan Banerjee In fact, such situations become too chalenging & frustrating especially for entrepreneurs. Big cos. can still absorb the loss with bench strength, etc. But for small firms firstly its difficult to attract talent, those who still join have very little commitment, needs to be coached and later they leave just like that.

Chill.

This type of attitude is very common and unfortunately a lot of companies do not do a background check. Very recently I have confronted someone with more than 20 years of Industry experience and who supposedly 'helps' entrepreneurs, for  recruiting unethically from my company and he responded to me that they had been 'ethical'. World is full of hypocrites.

Need to take a deep breath, bounce back and look towards the future. For every 10 such losers you will gain atleast 1 superstar.

Another point, never get emotional in your decision making. Nobody will worry about your kid before leaving. Sounds harsh but true. My many mistakes have made me much wiser :-). Always have a fair and effective process to deal with this to avoid overreacting or under-reacting. Happy to answer any questions.

I think you are getting over-emotional. You can dismiss him, that's fine. Its for the future of the company and other employees.

But just another viewpoint, as a leader one should be inspiring, and even the best of people need that motivation, communication and connection.
