Fitrangi.com a Mumbai based startup Successfully Organized India’s First Adventure Tourism Conclave!

Feeling great to share the post event report of “Adventure Tourism Conclave 2015”

We have achieved our first milestone. Let me narrate you our story in brief –

I started
Fitrangi.com along with my multi-skilled group members with different skills complementing backgrounds for Adventure Industry.  Adventure activities need much more than passion including proper knowledge, sufficient planning, right equipment and precautions for safety and when one thinks to do it commercially then sustainability and audience acquisition etc. also becomes challenges.  There is no proper source giving enough information to any enthusiast wishing to undertake adventure activities.  No systematic information is available about Dos and don’ts for these activities.  Not much of awareness among people getting converted from normal tourists to experiential adventure. 
 
Over a period, we realized the great potential and idea of online community Portal for making this information available was conceived. I took initiative and started a basic information portal with information on adventure destinations, organizers and gear dealers and also started to create a positive vibe among the general youth through social media. During brainstorming, the name “Fitrangi”, originated as a combination of urdu word “Fitrat” – “the Attitude” and Hindi word “Atarangi” – “Different” i.e. à FITRANGI – “The attitude to be different.”
Fitrangi.com believes “Is it the attitude to be different that makes an Adventurer – but has to be supplemented by right information, at right time, in right fashion, in minimum efforts. And we wish to be at the fingertip away from need of every Adventure stakeholder.”
 
Since inception, we were trying to create a comprehensive online platform. However, we soon realized that the industry needed an offline platform as well for structured growth. And that’s how we organized India’s first ever Adventure Tourism Conclave in Mumbai  successfully in January 2015, with over 500 B2B participants and 25 exhibitors from all over the country showcasing their products and services, ranging from outdoor garments, to climbing equipment to hybrid bikes, sky diving experience providers and various accessories that are vital for survival in the outdoors.
The main objective of conclave was to get all stakeholders of this industry together to facilitate inclusive growth and positioning of Adventure Tourism as a specialized and forward looking segment of Tourism Industry. Our efforts to organize this event, the first official attempt at bringing together the stalwarts in the industry were recognized not only by veteran mountaineers and senior members of the fraternity but also by Government. (MTDC was our supporting partner. They also invited Fitrangi.com to assist in government-organized workshop for adventure stakeholders)
 
At this conclave Mrs. Kishori Gadre, General Manager, MTDC did accept that “The Government now more than ever needs to take up the role of a facilitator than a regulator.”  
 
Glimpses – Adventure Tourism Conclave 2015

 The event was covered by most of the adventure magazines or portals.
 
We are now concentrating on strengthening our online presence, content and community building.  A healthy assistance in terms of backing from an able investor can we take a leap as per our action plan and reach out to practically every stakeholder to be an active member of our portal and develop a perfect portal as “India’s Complete Adventure Portal.”  
 
Indian tourism industry has tremendous potential of growth.  Adventure Tourism is the perfect segment to enter at the moment in India as Indian economy is growing at 5.4 %, Indian tourism industry is on upswing rising at the highest speed of 14%, Moreover, India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. It is expected that, in 2020, the average age of an Indian will be 29 years in a young country. India is world’s third largest country using Internet.


We have an early mover advantage in the adventure community by making a market place for adventure gear dealers, campsite and resort owners having adventure activities. The increasing target audience using internet, young and hence most eligible for spirit of adventure, and improving lifestyle will definitely give Fitrangi.com perfect positioning being the first entrant.
