Give your baby a suitable name, and not just a unique one – NameMyWorld

1. What is this video about, and what is the message conveyed in it??

Naming a baby is one of the most important and crucial decision that parents have to take nowadays.. And it has become essential to select a name that is not only unique, but also suitable and correct for the baby..

NameMyWorld is a mobile app that helps parents decide a suitable name for their newborn babies.. It enables parents to compare the suitability of various names that they are considering for their baby, based on the science of numerology..

So for every baby name entered into the app by a parent, the app generates a percentage score indicating the level of suitability of that name for the baby, using a unique algorithm, which takes into account the baby’s date of birth too..

With the help of this video, NameMyWorld wants to educate parents about the merits of naming their babies correctly..

2. What was the inspiration behind creating a simple 2D animation video, without any voice-over??
We wanted something that could communicate our thoughts and vision, in a simple yet clear manner.. The idea was to convey the importance of naming a baby correctly, with the help of an easy to understand example.. But at the same time, also make sure that it doesn’t seem too intimidating either..

We knew that we did not want a typical explainer video, which is best suited for showcasing the various features and functionality of an app, but instead produce a video that could create an impact.. And voice-overs somehow give the impression of a pitch, rather than communicate a specific message.. Moreover, videos with voice-overs also have a lower chance of getting re-shared by people on their social networks..

So once we finalized the story and script, the next call was to choose the right genre of the video.. The primary choice was between 2D, 3D and Real Life.. Real Life was ruled out because of its sheer expensiveness.. And for 3D, we thought that it would steal the charm of the message, and attract too much attention towards its graphical glitz.. But again for 2D, there was a further choice between Character Animation, Whiteboard Animation and Typography Animation..

Now considering the serious nature of the message that was to be conveyed, we opted for 2D, with a blend of Character Animation and Kinetic Typography, and no voice-overs..

3. What were the steps involved in creating the Video??
The steps that were involved in creating this video, in ascending order of occurrence, are as follows,

Story
– This is where you come up with an outline story / message that you wish to communicate with the help of the video..
Scripting
– This is where you prepare the word by word text, that will be either printed or spoken by the character(s) in the video..
Casting & Characterization
– This is where you create the various characters (if any), that will be performing in the video, and give them traits and qualities as per the requirement of the story..
Story-boarding
– This is where you sketch the screen-by-screen individual frames of your video, and run them like a slideshow to get a feel of the output..
Animation
– This is where you connect the dots and animate all the frames, to bring the storyboard to life..
Music & Mixing
– This is where you integrate a background score / voice-over / other music into the video, and align it with the flow of animation..
Editing
– This is where you chop-off the unnecessary / repetitive / not to important / can do away with parts of the video, to get a final more refined version of your video..
Publishing
– This is where you export the final video into various formats, and publish them on video sites like YouTube and Vimeo, for sharing with your target audience..

Now certain parts or all of the above, can be either outsourced or done by yourself.. In our case, we did the Story, Scripting and Casting ourselves, and outsourced the remaining to a video production startup.. But if you wish to do the Animation and Music / Voice-over too yourself, then there are also some DIY tools available online like PowToon and GoAnimate, to name a few..
