Helical Insight : Open source BI Platform powered by machine learning

Dear All,

We are really glad to launch our own BI product “Helical Insight” which could help you connect to your multiple databases and derive insights from that in form of various reports, dashboards, infographs, etc.

Why we need a new BI tool:

– All the current set of tools are not developer friendly. They do come with certain set of features but it is not possible to extend the capabilities. For any new feature, clients have to depend on the vendor. There is no BI framework as such.

– Even though some of the current set of BI tools have self service but they are also difficult to use. Business users need to know metadata, grouping and other functions.

– Costing is one of the biggest factor why BI adoption is still very less in small to medium sized companies.

Seeing these current set of limitations, we had started development of our BI product. Some of our USPs are

1) Inbuilt workflow: Helical Insight is the first Open source BI tool in the market to come with an inbuilt workflow. This allows you to define which action will happen, when it will happen and how will it happen. You can not only call any of the functional module of Helical Insight, but you can also custom code any module and integrate here. For example, keep on checking some value, once it reaches certain threshold create a report and save it on FTP and email schedule it. There could be various other number of use cases like this.

2) SOA Architecture: Helical Insight is a first completely API driven interface. It empowers developers to add functionalities without depending on the vendor. Using API you can add charts inside adhoc or inside machine learning module, using API you can add any new data type, using API you can add any new exporting type, using API you can add more configuration inside email scheduling etc. Functionality at each and every place can be extended. You can add functionalities at the backend (using java) or at the frontend (using HTML).

3) Instant BI: Helical Insight is the first open source BI tool which comes with an integrated machine learning and NLP module. This allows you as a business user to interact with your data, ask questions and get relevant answers from it.Our strong backend algorithms identify which functions needs to be applied, which filter needs to be applied, which measure is to be shown etc and shows the relevant result.

Helical Insight comes with all the other features which you would generally expect out of any BI tool like self service, browser based, exporting, email scheduling, user role management, mobile compatibility, multi-tenant architecture etc.

Right now we are in beta and we would love to hear your feedback. Please do download and give it a try. Register here for the free version.

  1. Dear Nikilesh,

Thanks for sharing your product Helical Insight that makes it easy to tap into multiple databases.  Who is your target audience?  In other words, who are the people who will best benefit by using your product?

    Badri

  2. Hi Badri,
Any organization who is generating data and wants to get insight from that data is our target audience. BI is one of the technology which can be used in any sector. Also many software product companies enter into OEM partnership with BI companies and embed their software offerings with advanced analytics by integrating BI into it.

Right now we are working with domains like clinical trials, energy analytics, training and leadership, ERP vendor, ecommerce, healthcare and project management software vendor company.

Please let me know if you would want a demo.

    Thanks
    Nikhilesh

  3. hey nikhilesh,

do you have a demo video? if so, you can embed it on the post itself!

  4. Nikhilesh,

Thanks for responding and clarifying. Your customer definition can still be refined.  It will be great if you avoid terms like ‘any organization’ and instead give examples of organizations that you have worked with already or would like to work.

I would suggest that you take a particular domain and do this exercise.  Once you have a fairly well defined profile of customers whom you think will benefit from ‘Helical insight’, then you can highlight the specific benefits they would receive by using your product.  They will be able to relate better to your offering when you present your product in that manner.

With best wishes and prayers for your success
