After having attended 2 Rodinhood meetups in Mumbai and meeting various entrepreneurs and checking out their creations, a thought struck me;
Wow these new companies and their products/services are so cool !! its unfortunate that the masses dont know about it.
The following days I spread the word to a few of my close ones about the companies i came across at Rodinhood to get their feedback on the uniqueness, usefulness, acceptability of the products/services,etc. And guess what; most of them loved the companies i suggested. Some even wanted to use the products/services of the same.
The second thought that came to my mind was that quite a lot of people out there are looking for such cool and new stuff to experience. SO WHY NOT BRIDGE THE GAP ? Thats when I decided to start a website where people will come to be amazed and delighted at what they see.
My third thought was: That is something similar to what these entrepreneurs are looking for, to increase their business:
EXPOSURE TO PEOPLE OUTSIDE THEIR FRIEND CIRCLE, FAMILY AND FACEBOOK FRIENDS
And that is exactly what they will get from this site. The entrepreneurs will get true feedback on their products/services from customers. And exposure to an audience beyond their family and friend circle.
So, here is a site where new and exciting companies will be listed for users to checkout (something similar to 'startuppo' which lists tech companies). It will also include anything and everything that is cool, creative and different. The users will post content too.
My idea is, if you have anything cool to share, why limit it to your facebook friends ?
'www.Cafepluto.co' is the proposed name of the site.
Here is where I need your help;
Cheers to entrepreneurship and thinking differently.
P.S. : this is still a concept and a website by the above mentioned name does not exist currently.

Getting a basic website out is the easy part.
The challenges you will run into include:
1.) Content: Developing content is not easy unless you are a pretty decent writer yourself and can spend a couple of hours per day in researching and developing content for the site.
2.) Audience: How will you attract an audience to your site (basically pretty much the same challenge the startups face themselves)
3.) Recovering costs: If you plan to do this fulltime, how do you expect to make money from the site.
I could help with a wordpress based website, logo design and hosting if you are still interested in taking this forward.
cheers

Thanks for the advice.
1) The content will be user generated. just like facebook, or Therodinhoods, where users themselves generate content, users will post stuff they like and want to share. (the very reason I need a partner who believes in the idea and can work part time.
2) Through word of mouth, will be promoting it online,etc ( with the quality of the content, I hope to get traffic)
3) Through advertisements, listings on the site by startups.
Yes I am interested in going forward with the site. my email id is khushalkapoor92@gmail.com pls send me your contact details.

Permalink Reply by Mohul Ghosh on December 14, 2012 at 10:26am I was just kidding Kushal! Great idea.. and great concept.. all the best :)
By the way, facebook.com has a controversial history just like this!
Permalink Reply by Khushal Sudhir Kapoor on December 14, 2012 at 11:41am Thanks. You mean to say I will be as successful as facebook?
Actually thats exactly what I am looking for. A partner who is a developer and can INVEST a few hours daily to help build the website in return for some stake. I wont require funding then. maybe at a later stage. let me know if you find one.

Just wondering. Can't we do the same at Rodinhoods? Or are you thinking about something like http://www.kickstarter.com/ ?
Regards,
Ankit.
Permalink Reply by Khushal Sudhir Kapoor on December 14, 2012 at 1:28pm No. we cant do the same at rodinhoods. Because Rdinhoods is a community for entrepreneurs. I want to take this community of entrepreneurs to the potential customers. Imagine if you have a kickass business, but the only people who know about it are rodinhooders and your facebook friends. whats the use of that?
It is like You have a diamond in your hand, but those who want to buy it are out there searching for it(may not be) and you are trying to sell it here.
It is something different than kickstarter. it is somewhat similar to pinterest.
Permalink Reply by Ankit Arora on December 14, 2012 at 1:55pm Cool. So you want to build some kind of a "start-up" discovery platform. Are you based in Mumbai? Let's meetup.

Rodinhood is inspired from Rodin - who sculpted 'The Thinker' and Robin Hood who 'got things done'. Hence Thinking+Doing = Rodinhood.
The best place for enterprising folks to hang out, share,make like-minded friends, get feedback and soak in a pool of vast experience.
