Ask For Help

How good is it to have your website being an affiliate of the big guys like amazon/flipkart/snapdeal

I want to start a website which gets content feeds from amazon and snapdeal and flipkart and a few other big e-com guys. I think all of them have an affiliate program.

I needed guidance on a few things like

What would it cost to set up a website like this ?

I have a unique domain name. So i will promote this website on social media . What kind of monies will i need to spend and what kind of returns can i expect ( my understanding is that the big e-com guys pay a % on leads/conversions from affiliates )

Anybody in our RH group who has experience on building such sites and can help from start to end

Thanks in advance for your inputs

cheers!

Anil

  1. Hello Anil,

The e-com you mentioned do provide API to get product feeds, but others might not. Affiliate commissions are generally CPS. It range from 0-15% (0 coz you don’t get commissions on some category). Basically that depends on the store and category of that product.

If you just want to promote those products, you don’t even need a website (But some might not approve your affiliate application), you can just start promoting in social media. Again, some affiliate program restrict you for social media promotion or brand bidding in CPC. If promotion is the only motto (no other service attached) simple host a wordpress site, write some script to access the stores’ API and auto-post. If you are doing that in shared hosting, you might be in trouble coz, there are huge number of products.

I do host such site 😉 PriceBoard

Let me know if you have any more questions.

  2. Thanks Samiran for these inputs
How is priceboard doing on CPS model ?

I will surely use these inputs while getting something developed .

    Cheers!

  3. We are at early stage, and things are improving day by day 🙂

  4. Your website have to be unique and specially content which you will be posting. You can use api to get price and other details from Amazon, Flipkart or others but if you are using same content and reposting on your website, your website will never get organic traffic. Then you will have to heavily depend on Paid traffic.

There are already coupon site, price comparison site etc. Either you can work on totally different idea or build your website on existing one. But at the end, it should be unique and should be updated regularly.

Next thing, you have to work on a plan to reach out to the target customers.

Refer to this discussion, you might get few additional ideas.
