I tell you the truth – Why entrepreneurs work their ass off?

Trust me, more than 100 people have asked me in last two years that why Entrepreneurs work their ass off when they can get a decent salary, date a beautiful girl and live happily.

Most of the entrepreneurs come from a very middle class family where getting a decent Job in big MNC is like a matter of pride for the whole family. But still why we entrepreneurs make our family deprived from that moment of pride for couple of years?

Most of the people presume that we entrepreneurs are hungry for money. We work till late night or in weekends because we want more money. While others are watching IPL matches or Chennai Express, we are still working to earn that extra money? I tell you the truth:

We don’t work for that extra money. Trust me, money is just a byproduct for us. We will earn that eventually but it doesn’t drive us to work our ass off. What drives us then?

We are building something which we really love. One day while flying in an airplane we want to see someone out there using our product. We wait for a day when someone will come to us and say thanks for building this (may be a hot chick ;-)). We are very much inspired from these words of Steve Jobs:

“When you grow up you tend to get told the world is the way it is and you’re life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money.
That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.
Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again”

We get bitten by this bug to build something for which world aspires for (or at least we believe that world aspires for our product). And after getting bitten by this bug, life is no longer same for us. ‘Regular Job’,’ Decent Salary’,’ Work Life Balance’ all sound like very weird words. We work with honest sweat, emotions and passions to build it and crazily, madly want to see world using it.

We want to earn money. We want to earn so much that one day we will buy an IPL Team, will change cars every month (Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maserati, Porsche, BMW), will date Miss India (or Katrina Kaif) or will just go on a world tour. We want to dine with Sachin Tendulkar, Mark Zuckerberg or Aamir Khan. We want to adopt villages in India. We want to change things that most people just criticize about. This won’t happen with the decent salary in a MNC, right? We want to do it all.

In short, we have a dream worth living for 🙂

P.S.: At bluegape, we enable brands to launch their Fan Merchandise.

  1. awesome man…..yehi meri bhi kahani h…but in ur words 🙂

  2. Well explained my friend. This is what I have to keep explaining everybody, money is not my aim but I need money to enable myself to achieve those goals.

Though we earn every penny in exchange of litres of blood & sweat and also using brains, we willingly donate or invest to change something that may benefit others or help improve the larger picture.

I have been always amused by the fact that if you tell your relatives you are a struggling entrepreneur, immediately your value is downgraded, but if you tell your relatives you are an intern or employee at some MNC, they feel proud of you.

Employee k liye itni respect, aur uss employee ko job provide karne wale ki 2 kodi ki izzat…. Funny people, funny society…! All we can do for now is ROFL. :p coz we know where we will be standing few years down the line.

PS: We don’t know the tenure of those few years before we become a huge success. It may be 1yr, 5 yr or 20yr… but who cares! We enjoy the journey more than anything!
