India’s Got Talent – What can I do in 3 min on stage?

Hello Rodinhooders,

I love asking questions at TRH because I know this is the only online community that can provide best suggestions and so here is another one I need your suggestions on!

I have been invited to give auditions for India’s Got Talent and the auditions in Delhi are scheduled on 31st Jan 2015. For those who don’t know what I do, I specialize in making detailed Paper Models of machines and it usually take from a few weeks to a few months to completely make one paper model.

Now, I am in a dilemma (as always) and I don’t know what I could do in 3 Min on the stage at my auditions and I have to make sure I could continue doing that if I may get selected for the next rounds. I have a couple of ideas such as:

1. Create the parts of a new paper model at home and assemble them on the stage in 3 min (possible but sounds boring to me).

2. Create a Paper Model of something like ‘Air Asia Airplane’ at home, shoot videos of making it, make a fast forward video of it to be played at the auditions where I’ll be holding my Paper Model and telling a story (I’m not a story teller and not sure if this would even excite the judges).

Please do suggest me WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE FROM ME if you were the audience that would make you select me for the next round 🙂

Thanks,
Atamjeet Singh Bawa (PaperSmith)

  1. Wow! That’s really a gifted talent. I saw your iron man face model. Can you make a paper model of a judge’s face in 3 minutes?

  2. A paper model usually take a few weeks time to complete. I can’t make the judge’s face because I would need the exact dimensions of the face to be designed in the computer first, open that in 2d forms, print, cut and then make a paper model of the same which is impossible in 3 min.

  3. Tough call.. as Point No. 1 is the thing that may sound boring to you, but may excite many… infact to cut paper in front of the audience is much boring for them.. but to watch you assemble them would be exciting! You can carry the iron mask that you make along with you and wear it while assembling (I don’t know how convenient that would be for you).. I am just thinking aloud..

Best Wishes for the auditions.. would really love to see you out there!!!

  4. Thanks Anamika for your suggestions.
I am still not sure if I can complete a significantly detailed paper model in just 4 days 😉

    How about story telling?

  5. Don’t go with a detailed one.. but an interesting one.. the field is very new and not many know about the possibilities.. so the slightest experiment from your end will create excitement… also, you can choose to pick your concept from the latest issues.. judges love it.. audience love it.. it connects people instantly.. again i am just thinking aloud 😀

  6. I totally get your point and yes you’re right, its a new thing for them and it might just excite them :p

I can make paper model of Air Asia Airplane in 4 days for sure and assemble that in front of them since its the most recent event that got everyone on it’s toes… what say?

  7. Yes.. it may be a fine tribute!!!

  8. atamjeet – you’ve cracked it yourself!! i think it’s the perfect thing to do.

    keep rocking dude!

  9. 🙂 🙂

  10. Ok.. what about taking kids along who are wearing your masks.. or a little act with your paper models?? am I going out of track?!! just keeping audience in mind… and ofcourse your talent.. in the act you can include all your major paper models.. the weapons and the vehicles..

  11. Taking kids along would be vey difficult as I would need to convince the parents + I have no time left to do any kind of rehearsals (I am sitting at my office while I’m typing this :p)

I initially thought of using my Paper Models to create a sort of an act (story telling) but that also needs time and different set of skills…

I guess I should better stick to doing what I’m good at, making paper models :p

A tribute to that Air Asia airplane will surely hit the right spot.
Another idea is to create a ‘Light Sabre’ from Star Wars movie and use that to repeat what NaMo said recently “May The Force Be With You” 🙂

Dekho, ideas are many, but I would like to know what YOU as an audience will love me to do?

  12. you could probably do a slideshow presentation of all the paper models you have made along with a 30-40 secs video of work in progress for any of the model. And then you might want to assemble parts of a new paper model possibly the simplest one (a simple mask or so)… & just before leaving the stage maybe you could ask the judges what they would like to see if you are selected for the next round.

    All the very best.

May your work get all the more recognition it deserves..

  13. Good Idea Sunaina, I am creating a video of a new paper model and shall assemble the parts there on the stage 🙂

  14. how did it go atamjeet?

  15. Hmmmm… I went all the way till round 3 of auditions with many ideas in my mind that I also discussed with the judges. The brainstorming lasted for a month (on calls) but nothing solid came out of it regarding what I could do to gain ‘WOWsss’ from the audience of IGT.
So, I couldn’t go to round 4 (i.e. in front of Karan Johor etc.).But I loved to see myself surrounded with lots and lots of very talented Indians during auditions.

Replying late cuz of their non-disclosure protocols 🙂
