Infinixo – A $90 Personal Computer that Everyone Can Afford.

Hi Rodinhooders! 🙂

I am a student and pursuing for BCA from BIT Mesra. My friends and me are working on a computer or better to say a device that can be afforded by anyone.

Our main goal is to make this device available in sub-urban areas, rural areas. This device will help an end user to learn, teach the computer.

It is portable. It’s just the size of your credit card. Connect the with the LCD/LED/Monitor for the display and mouse and keyboard for input and within minutes your computer is ready.

Edit document, photos and save your work on on-board storage. Surf the web and check email, facebook, twitter etc. over Internet connection. Play games, listen songs. With dozens of applications and tools pre-installed. Infinixo will do everything the moment you power it on!

The thing we are unable to guess is the market size. We have 400+ pre-orders till today.

We are looking for the tie-up with NGOs so that we can reach to rural areas where we can introduce computer education and the device. And above all, we are looking forward to give the device for free in these areas.

And yeah it costs Rs. 5,999 and come with a three year warranty.

Please let us know what do you think about Infinixo.

Thank you!

P.S. This is not the idea stage, we are going to deliver the device by first week of the November!

  1. hi manish,

have you put up a website yet? or a fb page??

have you tried crowdfunding the project for folks to pre-order? check what diabeto did!

    https://www.therodinhoods.com/forum/topics/diabeto-your-friend-in-diabetes-is-up-for-pre-orders-on-indiegogo

pls add your twitter handle at the end (or create one for infinixo if you still haven’t) – will help me promote you!

  2. Hi asha 🙂

Our website is still under construction cuz we are adding the payment gateway on our website.

An interested person can order the device either by contacting to me at 7209235516 or by sending a Hi on WhatsApp (same number).

We are not looking for crowd sourcing. We have enough fund as of now and we can take orders.

Twitter handle will update by evening.

    Thank you!

  3. manish, sorry to say, but if you don’t have a ready link for folks to check out the product, you don’t share an email for queries, but are soliciting business over the phone, it doesn’t come across as very professional 🙁

i think you need to add more images and more details to this post. if you are seeking feedback on your product we’ll definitely need more details.

and pls update the post with your site link when it’s ready.

    all the best

  4. Hi Guys!

    I have following doubts

    1) I believe you are using Raspberry Pi or similar board computers as the base system. Its not very successful as its not made for heavy performance. Raspberry Pi is available in 3k and a chinese equivalent Banana Pi is available in 1500-200

    2) I believe in 5999 you will provide the board/cpu only! adding the cost of a decent monitor, mouse, keyboard, hdmi cable will take the cost around 11k-13k . Its a same price where someone can buy a 11 inch laptop or low cost chromebooks!

  5. Hi Kunal 🙂
See, We are working on a new OS.. With new UI (not traditional point-and-click with mouse)… Plus Infinixo compatible personal cloud service… Of course we can’t tell everything right now.

    and,
For the second point. Yes you can get a chromebook or any low cost laptops.. But infinixo will get update.. It’ll get both hardware and software upgradation and extension. Our plan for infinixo is very long and involves some really handwork.. With infinixo we are trying to create a new category.. After all things done it’ll be more than just a personal computer.

Hope it will help 🙂 Thank you…

  6. q: is it for hobbyists and geeks? confused as to what exactly it is (not clear from pics)…why would this be a better option than a tablet that can do many more things for similar price/cheaper?

  7. Hi Rishi,
This device is for everyone. It’s for the student, the school teacher, the blogger, the engineer everyone. It’s extremely easy to use and ultra portable. You can do all your basic computing needs and more on this thing.
In India everyone cannot afford a Rs. 30000/- computer. So we’re providing them with a pocket friendly yet feature full alternative. Apart from that now is the time of Post-PC and Cloud Computing technology. Everything is so portable that it literally fits into your pocket. In Cloud Computing era we believe we don’t need expensive hardware to run all professional softwares (i.e. Microsoft Office, Photo editing tools, Games) since most of them exists in the cloud and you just need a moderate internet connection and a browser to run them. Some may argue that tablet can do that, but it really can’t. Tablet is a very good as a reading and browsing device but it’s not suitable for content creation. If you want to design a Webpage, create a full presentation or write a book you’ll need convenience of computer (less than $150) without compromising anything.
We gave some of our products to some engineering students and it’s incredible that they came up with such cool ideas and applications to use this device. Moreover this is just a start. We are going to create a whole ecosystem of cloud computing where everyone will own their own cloud.

  8. best wishes! would love an update when it’s ready 🙂

  9. Manish,

Like your efforts since you are a doing this with your college.

I am gonna be blunt. So bear with me.
    1. You are not gonna be able to sell a board chip in rural areas for ~Rs 6k. Your device needs a monitor for display and keyboard & mouse for input, which is a hassle and definitely not cheap when you add the other costs.

    2. Why you are facing problem in market size estimates. You need to identify your market first, to estimate its size. “In India everyone cannot afford a Rs. 30000/- computer. So we’re providing them with a pocket friendly yet feature full alternative.” How about a chromebook for Rs 11,699
    https://www.amazon.in/Nexian-Chromebook-11-6-inch-Laptop-Cortex-A17/dp/B00UYH9GZO/ref=sr_1_20?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1447426206&sr=1-20

    3. You mentioned, you have 400+ preorders. I am impressed if 400 people have paid full or partial amount for this product. or even 40 people paid. But would have doubts if you just have 400+ email-ids of people showing interest.

Would love to know the update on your end.

  10. To answer your first question, yes we are aware of that fact that you’ll also have to buy I/O devices. We are considering to partner with local re-sellers of computer accessories to deliver the peripherals at a really affordable cost. In your 2nd point you mentioned chrombook which is nice but with infinixo we are trying to create a whole new eco-system. we are working on a new OS for computers with completely new UI. We are also working on a revolutionary yet easy to use cloud computing device compatible with our computer and eventually in future with Windows and Mac OS too. If we succeed at this, we will be witnessing a new era of personal cloud based computing.

The answer of your third question 🙂 People connected to us via Facebook and from various other Facebook groups. People loved the concept and hence they pre-ordered the device via email address. we used the email address to contact them and surprisingly we got around 20+ confirmed orders. 🙂

Bonus: here is the demo -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6odN-2qthf4

  11. Still as a rural buyer, I would compare the cost/desing/look n feel of “used I/O devices + your device” vs a cheap chromebook.

It also seems that you are doing too many things. Its not bad to have a vision, but focus on one thing at a time.
Think about what is the main problem that you want to solve. Then focus on it.

If it is that computers are too costly, focus on creating a low cost device only. You shouldn’t be working on a new OS or a cloud computing device.

Also, saw the video. Congrats on building a working prototype. Now go and meet the people who would be using your product, and take thier feedback. That would be the best feedback you can get.

  12. manish,

i’ve embedded your video on your post so other folks can watch it – might get missed in the comments!

feel free to add any more edits.

have you started rolling devices out yet?

  13. Here is my challenge

Ratan Tata the Mighty “THOUGHT” that Indians would love a watered down, basic car for Rs 1 lac and below.

The NANO was born and has been probably the WORST disaster in the history of the Tatas.

Indians DONT ONLY want cheap. They want GREAT quality and low prices.

With computers being considered educational tools, why would people go for ‘cheap’ only to discover lower processing power, memory etc?

What are they buying for Rs 6500? Isn’t a very nice smartphone (with awesome apps) a better bet?

  14. Alok,

I would like to disagree with you here.
Indians (like any sensible consumer) like cheap (read economical) products. Otherwise, You won’t win customers with flashy e-commerece sales. Micromax, Xolo won’t acquire mobile phone market share.

Nano didn’t fail because it was cheap. In my opinion it was a noob marketing blunder. You don’t market a luxury item as “cheapest”. Cars is a luxury item for Indians, nobody wants to drive a car which everyone would call cheap.

Also, As Manish has already pointed out, its not easy to make assignments/presentations, code, edit images etc on smartphones. You need a laptop/desktop/chromebook.

  15. Hi Abhishek

Indians like cheap products but the ones which can create value in their lifes too.

In order to make assignments or do minimal school work, a person always needs an monitor so considering the fact that you’ll be selling this device around 5k (including accessories) and a normal monitor or lcd will cost around 6k thats gives us an amount around 11k

A laptop can be bought in this amount.

Second the memory will always be an issue with raspberry pi and similar products and because of the low memory chrome wont be responsive plus there will be issues in playing videos from youtube.

  16. Kunal,

I think you are mistaking me for Manish, who developed Infinxo.
I totally agree with you about the cost. If you saw my previous comment, I mentioned you could anyday buy a Rs 11k chromebook over this device.

  17. Hi Manish

wana know more about the product and apart from cost how it is useful for the end users.

  18. Hi Alok Sir,

“It started with cheap computer, I agree. But now It’s all about innovation and creating new stuff. And That’s not a fair comparison with Nano. Even we don’t like the car. But we believe that great products can be supplied at a very reasonable price. For example Apple keeps approx Rs. 24000 per iPhone. We know thats a great product with great functionalities but still if they keep their profit margin a little lower they can reach to much more people in sub-urban areas. BTW we are not talking against Apple. Now to your second point, We already mentioned that smartphones, tablets these are great at sirfing, browsing, ebook reading etc. But you are not gonna design a whole website on the “Most Powerful Smartphone/Tablet on the planet”, because it’s not convenient. You’ll always need a convenience of a PC.”

  19. Hi

Thank you so much for editing the post.

Here is the Twitter Handle: https://twitter.com/InfinixoIndia

And we are yet to start rolling the device. We will do it soon.

  20. @Manish: checkout this. The $5 computer. Can you beat this?

    https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-zero/

  21. Hi Abhishek,

It’s not only about the price. Our PC have much more features than raspberry pi zero. It has more RAM, Faster processor, Full 4x USB 2.0 ports and a micro-USB port. The processor we use have beaten intel celeron and atom processor in benchmark tests. And we support emmc storage which you may know is much more faster than USD storages.

Plus, yes, you can buy a 5$ raspberry pi zero pc but the extra things that you have to buy like micro-USB to USB converter, SD card for storage, you have to install the OS yourself, all these are big hassles.
