Startup

Is there scope for Next Social Media :The Next Big Thing”

I recently read the hubspot report fr digital Ad spends for 2011 – 2012. And i was surprised to see that the 13 % Ad spends were dedicated to something called Other, and this other was part of every metrics. They referred this other to “The Next Big Thing”.

Is there a possibility for this other to outrun facebook like they did to Myspace.

What do you Think ???

  1. Hi Yatin,

10 Years is a too long time to say something like this … if we talk about the current web then 3 years is the standard time frame for a startup to take over…

  2. Awesomely crafted reply , and i loved the point that you made about twitter and My space. and as far as the reports are concerned from these third party agencies they are actually as good as crap.  But I am sure there would be a revolution in this space which would be beyond Ad revenues. I am not sure what that would be but yes i am on my way of discovering something similar…

I am happy to know you via this platform.

yep – call me a ol’ fart who tends to think too long term lol 🙂 You are right, things change too fast in this space.

i don’t see threat to FB in 3 years unless they screw up in some MAJOR way( but hey, we thought the same about Myspace in 2007, so i could be totally wrong here 😀 )

i have celeb friends charging upto $100 per sponsored tweet but  I see Twitter being abused beyond recognition in next 3 years so it’s marketing value fading in.

Ultimately, the smart marketeers will realize that it doesn’t matter which site the ad $ are spent on as long as the traffic converts.

( p.s: I don’t care much about the fancy charts report guys at Hubspot, Marketing Sherpa, etc,etc – i’m small time hands-on guy who lives by his analytics data and thinks those reports are mostly glorified crap! )
