Hi everyone,
I’m really confused and I need your valuable advice and help. I’m an electrical engg(23 yrs) working in PSU company for last 1 year. I want to become an entrepreneur(honestly speaking, I don’t have any idea right now). But one thing is sure ,I HATE MY JOB(OR ANY JOB).But my parents are not letting me quit this job because of these reasons-
1. You are very young to start your own business.(I agree)
2. At this stage, you don’t have any B-pan or idea in your mind.(I agree)
3. You don’t have any experience in corporate world as you are working as an engineer.(I partially agree)
4. We don’t have any family business or business background. In short we are maharashtrian and not gujju, sindhi or marwadi.(I do not agree)
5. How can you leave a govt job with this good package(10L CTC).(I don’t care)
They do have some valid points and being my parents & well-wishers, I respect it. But I want to start my own and cannot do a job.
Any suggestions, advice??

First and most important is that you don't have an idea. "The Idea" is everything if you don't have the money or knowledge to start up.
Second- you want to start something because you hate your job. so you dont want to create something that no one has done or thought till now but you are just frustrated from your job.
although I think that a bad job or work environment is a good motivator but, it is not, and should not be the primary motivator. its natural to feel averse and disinclined about a new job, especially if you dont like the field you are currently working in.

Permalink Reply by Anshoo Grover on June 15, 2012 at 7:36pm I think you are focusing on too many negative points.
Start with what you have (the positives) and build on them:
Most important thing for a start-up founder is determination, so walk out of the negative thinking asap. Running a company is huge stress - optimism goes a long, long way.

Permalink Reply by Snehil Khanor on June 17, 2012 at 11:44pm What I'ld suggest is wear your thinking cap.. start brainstorming for ideas.. or start looking for some one with an idea who is looking for a co Founder.. (attend startup meets for that) As soon as you get one or the other.. leave the job.
If you are working for 2 years now then you must be having enuf to survive for atleast an year or two.. U seem like an entrepreneurial spirit.. govt job is obv. not the place for you.. even if you are not able to startup on your own.. atleast join some startup. again I repeat.. govt job is not the place for you.
And for parents.. here's how I convinced my mom that I dont wanna do a job and wanna startup..
A li'l background..I am 21, I just finished my B.Tech (last exam was on 16th). I was working with Letsbuy.com for the last 1 year.. I joined them as an intern for 6 weeks but got an opportunity to work for them part time as a business analyst in their product team. Completion of my B.Tech and Winding up of Letsbuy at the same time was the first sign from god..
Us se pehle I along with friends were doing freelance web dev. stuff.. I just never wanted to do a job.. thought of it sickens me.. but working at letsbuy was actually fun (thats Y I suggest you to join a startup if nothing else..). from the very beginning I always wanted to do something of my own..
Now when the time came.. mom was not very supportive.. (she still isn't)
She made some very similar points to your point # 1, 3 n 5
I told her... "Karna to hai hi.. aaj ni to kal.. aaj karunga to mai 6-7L p.a chhod raha hounga.. kal karunga to shayad 10-15L. pa. to decide karlo.. "
Regarding Experience I told her ki I've been doing this web stuff for past 6 years now.. and I've even got 1 year of industry experience and that too of a startup.. thats much more than 1 year experience of some other corporate..
And for "you are too young" I simply told her that - to be ahead.. you have to start ahead... ;)
She still is not very much convinced.. but shez no longer against it.. and I can live with that.. ;)
