Just Launched Yipeedo.com – Recommendation Engine to plan a day out

Hi Fellow Rodinhoods,

I am excited to share about launch of my first venture with all of you 🙂

Just to brief about myself, I have 7 years of experience into IT, with my last role being Technology Lead at Infosys Labs. I have been very much involved in startup ecosystem since 2007 and finally when onsites and bank credit at end of month couldn’t lure me much, I decided to take the plunge in 2012 and started my venture “Coffee Mug Ideas”, we at coffee mug ideas believe in power of simple ideas that can come up during a casual conversation over cuppa coffee 🙂 and hence the name Coffee Mug Ideas.(CMI)

We at CMI have just launched Yipeedo.com.

Yipeedo! is a recommendation engine for young consumers (18-40 years) in urban centers who need to plan a day in city around F&B, Movies, Plays and Events and that, unlike existing solutions, will build an end-to-end plan tailored to user’s preferences

Why we need Yipeedo?

While people go out to eat but a good number of times they don’t go out JUST to eat.

So, when they go online to plan, they don’t plan JUST to eat but look for an experience!

That is where we fill the gap.

Do check out our concept video   (If below video doesn’t work here is the link Concept Video Yipeedo

While we are working hard to get Yipeedo out of beta and GO live with features required for consumers, Feedback on our concept & product is highly requested 🙂 you can comment here or mail us at feedback@yipeedo.com

  5. Hello Shalini Ji !!

I am glad to see something like this in the pipeline.. I’d thought about a similar venture a few months back when it took me days of planning and surfing the internet to take my friend out.. All the very best for your venture ! Would love to be a part of it in anyways I can 🙂

  6. Nice concept. Just like to understand, how it gonna help us. Just listing or you are doing something special for consumers.

  7. Sorry, but your website INSISTS that it POST on facebook on my behalf (while signing up) and when I say “NOT NOW”, it takes me back to the home page?!

  8. Thanks a lot Prateek 🙂 yes we wantcto take out the pain from planning a day out in city, today we all have to browse multiple sites to plan a fay out..we are working hard to male ot easier 🙂 you ll hear more from us soon! 9. Thanks Manish, we don’t want to be another listing site and so we are working hard to create right recommendations for our consumers. We are currently in beta and working to provide bookings also via Yipeedo.com.

Please follow us on twitter @Yipeedoo and like us on fb 🙂 http://www.facebook.com/ yipeedo

  10. @Alok oops..Thanks for pointing it out, seems like a bug. Will gwt it checked. 🙂 hope u liked the concept.

  11. Hi Alok,

Just tested this but we were not able to reproduce this issue 🙁

It appears that when you logged in, facebook would have prompted you for certain permissions (which is part of FB login process). When you said ‘Not Now’, it would still log you in with necessary permission for Yipeedo on your FB account. Post this we prompt for 2 profile setting question that may sometime take a few moments to pop-up. We suspect this have led to the issue that you faced, where you possibly saw the home page but not the subsequent prompts.

Hope this helps explain your experience. Happy to investigate further in case of any specific concerns 🙂

Hope to see you evaluate our product.

  12. My feedback:

  13. Few things to consider as you get into launch. I guess you guys are planning to launch it in Bangalore first which is fine, but:

    1. The background image on home page – i’d recommend you change it. I’m not sure but I doubt if it’s Bangalore, or even India. I know it’s pretty and makes for a nice background, but as trivial as it might sound, I’d like to keep things authentic and relevant.

    2. Bangalore is huge! May be not distance wise, but time wise (when you take traffic into account). So instead of starting with activities, I’d either start with current location or a user entered/preferred location (make it hyperlocal), and then get into selecting activities.

    3. I don’t receive any results when I pick Book Reading and Lounge. Why even have options, if there are no suggestions?

    4. Book Reading — is it that common / preferred activity? Just a question, not saying get rid of it.

    5. Relevance of results: Why would a user go to Firangi Paani if s/he wants to go to a cafe?

    6. Value to user — so what’s the value beyond knowing a list of places I can go to? For ex: are these places not so well known but worth experiencing? do I get special offers if I find something through your site? Can I make reservations directly from your site? Is the movie show ticket availability real time — I’d rather go to bookmyshow.com or inoxmovies.com or pvrcinemas.com to get real time information if that’s not the case.

  14. Hi Alok,

Thanks again for the feedback. We understand your point. Maybe our efforts to make the UI simple haven’t been bang on 🙂 The idea is to actually select a core/pivot activity (in this case movie) and then pick a something to do before and then something to do after that.

It appears that this is not very obvious in the UX today. We will work to make it more intuitive. We are actively looking to re-look at entire UI now that we have a better sense of how users seem to be using it.

Thanks much. Really appreciate your feedback 🙂

  15. Hey Rishi,

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback, really appreciate. My response below:

    1. Right now we are in Bangalore, but as we speak, we are actively working to expand to other city. But, we take your feedback that maybe the image could be more relevant and connect with users more instead of generic nice image 🙂

2.Sort by nearest location /time at hand etc. is something we are scoping for our mobile app

3.We had hoped to get good actionable data on book stores and places of similar nature. Given the lack of if at our end and generally, the focus being elsewhere, this option will be taken off. Lounge however, will remain and as we speak we are actively trying to mend that.

4.In our initial survey and private alpha, we got feedback that Book Reading might be a good option to mix into the plan. However, since we have opened to general public, there seems to be little interest to that part. We are actively, evaluating it and may even take it off temporarily until we have figured out how to attack this piece.

5.Did you get an option as Firangi Paani when you selected “Cafe” as one of the activities? If yes, then that will be a bug and we will investigate it further.

6.Special offers, table booking and movie bookings are all actively being worked on. We will make announcements shortly in this regard 🙂  That is the entire idea, that you don’t have to go to 10 different places 🙂

    Thanks again!

  16. cool idea .

the bg image distracted me .
also it would have been better if i get suggestions of events based on my interests that i didnt know about .

the main problem you should solve is boredom .
I am already so bored with movies , cafes .

can you fine me some new , cool , fun  experiences around me .

try getting data from sites like tushky .

    tc cheers

    Karan

  17. shalini – can you pls add your twitter handle at the end of your post?

i find it increasingly difficult to hunt down member’s twitter handles to be able to mention while sharing their posts. @yipeedo goes somewhere else 🙁

  18. Thanks for pointing it Asha

Have done that now. Our Twitter handle is @Yipeedoo (double o at end)

  19. Thanks for your feedback Karan 🙂

Yes suggestions and recommendations are our core and we are working at it…we are working to get more relevant and personalized information to our consumers.

Solving boredom is a huge problem 😉 and we are taking it in chunks, not biting more than we can chew 😀
As per our initial survey we found most of the people club movies and food together and hence we rae trying to make that easy and in process help people discover places they may not have thought about and which are just stone throw away distance from the movie hall they are planning to go.

Tushky is providing individual experiences in/outside city. we for now are focusing on helping people plan a day in city around movies and F&B to begin with 🙂

Thanks a lot for your interest in our concept, we are trying to make it better and easier! Do follow us on Facebook and Twitter – @Yipeedoo

  20. maybe we need to customize rodingoods site so that this is easier ?

  21. karan,

we’re on NING. not much customisation is possible.

you’re the geek. if you can figure out something… that would be awesome!
