Ask For Help

PrizeWatch

Sometime in May, I had bought a gift from the DLF Emporia Mall in Delhi. After the purchase, the lady gave me two coupons and told me that I was eligible to enter a lucky draw where the grand prize was a Merc ( E- class and not the sweet one above )

Since I had already spent over 25k I thought, why not go through the additional pain of filling out the form…coz who knows right 🙂

As consumers, we keeping seeing contests (“Like our page and Win an iPad” Anyone 😉 ) everywhere and sometimes take part in them. However, how many times do we find out who won them AND if winners actually got the promised prizes.

What if there was a portal which could keep a track of contests and if the companies had actually declared the winners along with info on the winners. Each contest could have a unique contest id and users could choose to be notified by email or sms when the contest got over.

It could, over a period of time publish a credibility report on companies which actually declare winners and the ones which don’t.

Another service offering could be a hosted Content Management solution (microsite, forms for data collection, promotions, Hold the prizes in Escrow and disburse them at the end of the contest, etc etc)

Just wanted to get some feedback from:

1.) Users: How often do you participate in contests and do you think such a service would be useful (It would be free for your of course)

2.) Entrepreneurs / Marketeers: Would you be interested in using a hosted content management service (and not just for technology), How do you currently run contests and pain points if any…What features might you want ?

Any other feedback will also be welcome (e.g. are you aware if someone is providing such a service etc )

Cheers

P.S: No, I didn’t win the Merc though i occasionally wonder who won it (if anybody at all)

P.P.S: If you are an entrepreneur / wantapreneur based in Gurgaon / Delhi and would be interested in exploring building this further, do get in touch at abhik@experiamedia.com

  1. Hey Abhik,

The Merc is just too pretty and awesome, I think it served the purpose :-).

Coming to the point, when I first came to Bangalore approx 3 year ago, I saw these kind of campaigns in almost every mall. Few days later, I did fill many of them (in the hope of almighty :D). One day I DID GET A REPLY. Yes, I got a call saying I won something (do not remember what it was), and they asked to collect it at some random place ONLY by a couple. The next challenge was to find a couple, luckily (actually unluckily) we got friend’s sister to collect the prize. Only then I came to know the twist, they asked us to pay around 7,000 to get some random accommodation at a random place. And some useless prizes.

So, the point here is, I would like to know all the terms and conditions before hand. If the prize is interesting enough, I do not mind filling the details. After all someone will win it (hopefully). But then, filling all the details is pain. How about a QR code, the app can directly read all the details. You may voluntarily create a QR code for those who do not have. Interested non-smartphone users might still have to do with pen and paper.

Thinking out loud, may be this process can be made fun. How about a game, as simple as “paper toss” with some gift (daily basis / hourly basis / etc.,). That would give some extra bonus for users to give their information.

From marketers point of view, I guess the motive is to get users information (email id, phone number, dob) and brand establishment. If the app can do these two at comparatively low cost, even small companies might be willing to pay. Especially startups working in “local” segment.

  2. Abhik, have sent you a mail. I am already toying with this idea. Lets connect.

  3. Anjaneyulu,

I think you got ‘Country Clubbed’ 🙂

Thanks for your suggestions…yep, the idea is to make it easier for both users and marketers.

Alok’s C2w has the fun games model but its more of inhouse contentsts rather than hosting external contests.

We will keep the ‘app’ suggestion in mind.

    Cheers

  4. Thanks ankur. Will reply to your email.

  5. There’s something similar here…. https://contestwatch.in/

  6. @rodinhood Alok – maybe c2w wants to lend its engines to this? The story seems too much like your own 15 years ago! Inspiration from a clunky broken process that keeps consumers wondering!

  7. Thanks Karthikeyan…I had seen Conteswatch.in but i don’t think its been active for sometime now.

If the founder of cw is reading this, it will be great if you could share some learnings 🙂

  8. Abhik, very interesting idea… will connect on this…

  9. Abhik that actually sounds really good, interesting too!
