I’m floating this open discussion to get RIO off the ground.

I believe strongly that if Noble Intent and Noble People come together, the world changes for the better.

Please contribute by brutal criticism, suggestions, contacts and ideas to ACTION this. Think of folks who may help us and connect me to them.

  1. Alok,

Been online after many days, and while I really love the RIO thingy, I had seen this many many months before, and would like to play a devil’s advocate, and ask you how RIO is different.

    Would love to hear 😛

    Bestttt,

    Nisarg

  2. Godaddy is using it for so long of which you are also a customer. I am not sure what kind of IP it is of yours. It is just making a widget of a feature you saw on a site who use very frequently.

  3. I saw something similar on Godaddy.com, when you checkout a domain/service purchase. A great idea. Non invasive and most importantly – super easy.

  4. Nice thought. However, you mention Rodinhood IP.

Plus there are eCommerce sites that are already doing this. The concept has been around for some time now. Many folks (including us) are testing it/are in process of creating affiliations.

Well, charity begins at home, right? Let’s leave it out as an open idea.

  5. Nisrag, Varun, Sachin,

    The EXAMPLE is of godaddy!!!

And I dunno what you have been thinking, but this ppt is NOT some chest thumping claim to fame about being the FIRST???

    It’s about INDIA

    Have you seen it here?

My friend Sanjay Swamy said Indigo uses a similar concept.

Now, do u know a company that has a common widget across all sites??

A place where the consumer can say “everything donate – split between these 5 charities”??

Guys, instead of always pouncing and trying to prove me wrong or bad, do something that helps people.

And not to worry, I am happy to state STOLEN concept as pointed out by all of you guys in the credits.

  6. It’s NOT IN INDIA.

    Makes sense???

  7. The uniqueness I believe will be:

    – custom fit donations flow at the RIO website end

    – Make it work in INDIA!! Across IRCTC to begin with! How many of these American sites you mention Nisargh will sit in the IRCTC office and do this?

You will casually return next year right to India?!

    – work with charities and causes to make them go digital.

Anyway, enough of making this a mine is first discussion. I would rather work on making it work than pursue this silly academic discussion.

  8. 😀

Baba, it does. But, that is why the “I really love the RIO thingy”.

Was just not clear if it was different except for its locale. Coz it says “Rodinhood IP”! And, I have begun expecting only the best from you !!

But, I wish you make it a great product! It is a great concept, and very much needed in the Indian context 🙂

  9. Cool.changing the IP of rodinhood bit

  10. and for the record, IP can mean naming, PROCESS IP etc.

  11. Alok the concept is very nice and as mentioned by you being followed by sites like Indigo which charge rs. 10 for donation if you want to.But only one thing you have used the word ecommercialize …….I think chartities might be commercialized when they see this ….already we receive numerous calls asking for donation…..if they can spend on marketing why not use that money to charity.

My view is many charities will come up and join this but the real use of money will be unknown. The channel where the money flows is very very important…..I think the link should go to give2win.com your charity and there should be a choice of charities there which you can idebtify are genuine and doing work and then money can flow there.

    thanks

  12. Very interesting view point…

  13. This is a problem with all charities.  Look close enough and you’ll see the warts in many.  But adding one more step to the checkout process (sending them to RIO to select the charity and coming back) will be problematic.  Ecomm sites won’t agree for fear of dampening conversions.  Better is just to round it off and breeze them through checkout.  They can visit the site after and say who should get what of their 4 bucks! 🙂

  14. Hey Alok !  I wish it’s born to life and will not stay as one more bridge to nowhere. ( I barely know where my taxes go, I at least would love to see how my charity works!)

Let me add my few paisa here (Not rounded ones 🙂

1.As you describe ,give2win is going  to be kind of a Paypal u/s 80 G as it will act as a bridge to transfer or allocate funds to partnered charities. I’m not sure if such a 80 G body is possible by the law of taxes.By definition you need to be a social org.

Possible solution: It necessarily not has to act as a 80 G body to achieve its goal i.e. acting as a  bridge for funds to partnered charities.

2.If give2win does act as a 80 G body, Its micro Charity with an 80 G exemption – This would need you to provide stamped receipts to the donors irrespective of the amount .An individual may transact and donate multiple times, that would mean multiple stamped receipt.(A nightmare of paper, stamps and  snail mail among others)

Possible Solution – Create and offer 80G a/c for individual donors at give2win and mail consolidated donations statement/one single receipts during the Tax season every FY.

3.Can you show me the change, my change has made?

Possible solution – This is toughest one. If you can win this one you can kill the rest and give2win can be a Global Digital NGO. My humble request scratch from here and everything else falls in line.

Goodluck Rodinhood ! Wud love to tick it ‘Yes’ everytime I checkout.(I mean till 10 % of my yearly gross 🙂

(BTW : Have been through this ROI experience offline at Big Bazaar where the checkout guy wud ask for the extra Re.1 or so to be donated in case your bill total is an odd figure like say Rs.309/-. They do it for both Card & Cash).

  15. To make this happen on a larger scale give2win can tie up ppl like ccavenue. That way you tie into lot of website who use their services.

  16. The concept has an audience and the ability to be implemented.

We at BillBharo will be more than willing to push this effort.

We can include the widget in our payment platform and it would be for everybody to contribute to. If you give me a few days, I will revert back to you with the process flow.

Look forward to your thoughts Alok

  17. This is already up and running in India – see https://tracksgiving.com. Arpit, TracksGiving also tracks donation usage to the last point.

  18. Awww Miss Mona how sweet.  We like to do our stuff in the open around here.  Care to join in? *wink*wink*

  19. Hi Alok,

Looks like a very interesting concept. Will add lot of value.

It can be a CSR initiative of every every Ecommerce Website and gives a philanthropic approach.

Technically- Api needs to be developed for all possible carts and languages available in the world.

Marketing- To promote the concept with a link back widget from every ecommerce website having it.

Operations- Monthly collection from the signed up partners.

Can something great. Wisdom of the crowd is already flowing.

    Jatin

  20. :))
