School Finder- Helping parents find the ‘ideal school’ for their young ones

School Finder- www.schoolfinder.co.in is an initiative to help parents find the ideal school for their young ones.

I came up with the idea of school finder- while watching a news-headline of how stressful it can be for parents to get admissions for their children in schools.

A minute later, i was googling if there was any website to fix this problem. For most of the websites i came across, were either in an unstructured format or were inactive forums by parents, i thought of a platform wherein parents will get 360-degree information snapshot needed during admission process and also keep them updated on admission deadlines.

To understand the crux of the problem, we met the heads of schools and interacted with parents to understand how they approached admission process.

Based on the results of this interaction, we imbibed behavioral pattern of what parents look out for in a school during admission. This led to the inspiration of having filters- Medium, Board, Location, Fees and Ratings in our website. So now, parents can zero-in on a particular school as per their requirement.

School Finder delivers a comprehensive list of schools coupled with the facilities provided by them.

In addition to that we have teaching faculty statistics, virtual tour, contact details, admission forms, admission procedure, admission dates, documents required for admission & navigation to the school location on maps.

Parents can compare schools heads-on and can also save their favorite schools for future reference.

On the detail page of every school, parents will get guidance in the form of :

Similar Schools- List of schools similar in board, medium and other entities in the same city.

Nearby Schools- List of schools in the same area as that of the currently viewed school.

Related Schools- List of schools belonging to same franchise at different locations in the same city.

So, instead of racing all over the city to visit schools and procure admission information, one can easily get it at a mouse click –www.schoolfinder.co.in

For the schools, we provide them an opportunity to display their features and achievements. It’s a perfect platform to reach out to the parents community.

Registration with School Finder is Free for all.

We aspire that every-parent, to-be parents, and will-be-parents shall enjoy the services offered by School Finder.

We are currently live for 11 cities viz Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad & Ahmedabad to name a few.

We would be soon launching our Andriod and Iphone apps, so that parents can reach us on the go.

We would love to hear your suggestions for the enhancement of our website. We are also interested in having your inputs on how shall we market this product.

  1. hey harsh,

do you have a twitter handle? pls mention at the end. thanks!!

  2. Hi Harsh,

    Congratulations on launching your website.

I work with HSBC, Gurgaon and have a total experience of now 10 years. I had been dwelling on the same idea for some time, but never started because of lack of time and support.

Would actually love to share my ideas with you. However here are few thoughts for you to think about. I am sure you would have answers to these.

    1. I guess, you have already spent a lot on the website designing. Then moving around to get information about schools.

    2. What is your earning plan? There are two parties who can potentially visit your site. Parents and schools. Parents would never pay. Why would they? are you giving them something cutting edge? Are you helping them manage anything? Are you really making their lives simpler?Your site would help, but I from my experience and person specific preferences, will always physically visit a school to get the feel. Second is the school. Would they pay you? What is the edge they get through your website? Are you helping them earn anything? Showcasing? They already have their own website. You may earn something from ads if you start getting sufficient traffic.

    3. How have you reached the ratings? Some section on your website should detail that.

    4. Who populates the information about the school? Have you provided login ids to the schools?

    5. Admissions is once a year phenomenon that lasts for about 2-3 months. Why would your site get traffic for the rest of the year?

Would love to catchup with you on solutions to above and some solid revenue creating ideas.

    Cheers!

  3. Hi Harsh,

Congratulations for launching this very useful website for parents.

Even I had thought of this idea once when my nephew was looking for school admission.

I think the major pressure point apart from finding good schools is the admission process. I haven’t personally gone through it but what I have heard from others is that their are multiple admission forms and fees etc. and it becomes unmanageable at times.

If you can solve this issue along with the school administrations even to the extent of standardising the process, it will be a brilliant solution.

Simplest solution would be to charge a small fee from parents which enables them to apply to a designated number of schools, just an idea, would require more brainstorming of course.

    All the best!

    Regards,
    Abhishek Sinha

  4. Hi Mukesh,

Thank you for showing interest in School Finder and suggesting valuable insights…

    1) We, at Wishtree Technologies, are focusing to improve every aspect of School Finder website- be it designing a website or improving data-sets. We are constantly interacting with schools to build a solid information base.

    2)  Revenue models are not the driving force for now. We would like to test the beta product with the users in the first season and understand the response.Even though, we are open to ideas for developing a revenue model. We are planning to provide analytics about schools performance which can be a real differentiator.

    3) We have based our ratings on RTE conventions which considers several infrastructural and teaching statistics to rate schools.

    4) We have a mechanism- Manage Listing in our school detail page wherein schools will get login ids and can update information as and when they want. They are required to apply for manage listing.

    5) You are absolutely right about the site-traffic variations for some months but as per our interaction with parents, they start looking out for schools 4-5 months prior to the admission process. But again, to escape such variations we are making efforts to make the website- useful for the entire year.

We would love to hear out your suggestions/improvements to market the product
