SHALL WE DIVERSIFY ?

Hi All,

For those who know us, me, I am the same cakeman who started CAKEHUNT.COM few months back and sought your feedbacks. With a great support from this community, we have started it and got a good response from the outer world.

We are helping people buy cakes from their favorite cake shop and get it home delivered and enjoying it. We are feeling that, something is missing and want to fulfill that gap.

What if, we give an option to customers to gift a photo printed mug at as low as Rs 70-80 to customer along with cake ? The minimum cost of it in market is Rs 150/-.

I have inquired with few vendors and the machine cost is Rs 20k (max), along with consumables. It is a simple mug printing machine. If we go for all in one machine, it can help us print mug, T-shirt, tiles, caps, ceramic plates etc. The cost of an all in one machine is around Rs 40k.

I am bit confused,

1. Whether we should diversify or not ?

2. If i get the mugs printed from outside, it will cost us min Rs 150 (Rs 100 if the quantity is 100). If I buy machine it will save Rs 90 or min Rs 45. Also we can use this machine to do job work for other customers and corporate other than cakehunt.com

3. If we invest, Rs 20K to Rs 30K more a new business can be created.

Investment is not an issue… Manpower to handle this work is also not an issue. Seek you genuine feedback and suggestions on it..To know more about us and how we started check this post

  1. Dear Ashish,

Good to know some thing new from your end. Doing some thing is not a problem at all, the main problem is to get customers, let customers be with you for long term.  So my best suggestion is go ahead and make sure that you can provide the best customer service both pre and post sales.

Customers look for service, quality, right price and support. If you can Deliver with out any delay. Then I wish you ALL THE BEST

    Thanks & Regards

  2. Hi Sai,

I was so eagerly waiting for the feedback that i refreshed the page at least 50 times ;). Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Just to mention, we have received repeat orders from almost 70% customers… and we are lucky that almost everybody has appreciated the experience of dealing with us.

In our business model, what we can offer to customers is the service experience only. That is what is making the difference. We are committed to this as long as we are into this business. I do remember your suggestion about Gifts and other things in my post about cakehunt.com.

  4. Hey Ashish,

I’d say go ahead. Why? Cakes are ordered for a birthday, or a special occasion. I’ll order cake, and i’ll order a small gift from somewhere, else. Will have to hide the order that arrives first, to ensure a timely surprise(imagine giving the cake first and 10 minutes later the gift). I think you’ll be able to offer a far better service!

I know this will be a shameless plug, but if it suits you, let me know if Eashmart can be helpful to you as well.

  5. ashish,

just go for it baba! the all in one machine sounds cool!

from what i know about you is

    – you enjoy a very good clientele in amdavaad

    – amdavaadi’s would love the extra add on with their cakes on a b’day (especially the teens) – the money they would pay you is not the kind they would consider twice – so you don’t even need to look for new clientele!

    – you said you don’t have manpower or investment issue!

    – initially you could give a few mugs as a surprise element to some of your loyal customers with a printed note saying you’ve diversified…. nothing like a great customer delight experience!!

  6. Thanks a lot Amit !

As the mug can be printed in just few minutes, we can surely add value in term of time. Also, the in open market the cost is min 199/- for a mug. We are planning to charge around Rs 70-80. So it be cost saving and creative kind of thing for gifting at one place.

I personally use a very basic phone, no android. My own thinking is entrepreneur is supposed to be shameless. I am also. I pitch my services to pan wala, garage wala, auto wala and everybody i come in contact.

  7. This is really surprising to see your feedback Madam……Yes, have a very loyal client base in Ahmedabad as well as from other cities. Happy to share that we have repeat orders from almost 60% customers we served in last 5-6 months.

Surprised, because I never saw you commenting on product based businesses, generally. Lucky me.

  8. Hi Ashish,

    Glad to hear that!

Eashmart would be used by your customers to make payments to you. You will be able to offer them a card on delivery payment option, and you will not have to buy any swiping machines either to offer this service.

  9. technically i may not be an entrepreneur ashish (though I treat trhs like my very own startup) – but as someone who has created and built brands for 20 years and as a consumer with a keen eye – i do know when i see a good idea!

me not commenting as often as i want is merely owing to the fact that we growing so fast – i can’t keep apace!

all the best. keep us posted on the progress…

  10. Asha Madam, everybody who look at the work as a passion is an entrepreneur, i think so. I worked for 10+ years and gave my best.

You are a nurturer for many entrepreneur…The way your work and devote your time, you are 100% an entrepreneur.

Will surely update you and others about the progress.

  11. Yes Amit, that can be done… We are also working on another project and we were planning to get ezetap machines for that. Need to convince customer to go for Eashmart. We will try our best.

  12. Hi Ashish,

Just sent you a friend request. Thought it would be best to talk over messages.

  13. ashishbhai,

    update karone!

did you go for an all in one printing machine?

  14. Ashatai,

I am happy to share that, with all your wishes, we are much busy in cakehunt.com for last one month. It has really picked up well. Had 2 good corporate tie ups for cake delivery in office and at their Middle & Senior Managers home. Also getting inquiries for supply of other food items. So kept this new thing on hold for sometime. Finalized that we will be going for the all in one machine. May be we will start this by second week of April 14.

If you remember (i shared this on FB and you commented on the status), On very first day of the launch of cakehunt.com, we got one order (online)… For first few months we used to wait for 6-8 days for order (online).. Though we were getting local orders but not from unknown peoples. Now, more than 90% orders are from outside Gujarat (Ahmedabad). Got repeat orders from more than 65% customers.

Because, this cakeman deliver feelings. 🙂 ……the guy next door,  Ashish S Parik

PS: Liked this “Karone”, a typical Gujju style 🙂
