Wakerr: A calendar for your phone contacts. Create events with people whom you know

Hello There!

If you are similar to me and my friends, you must have felt problem in organizing get togethers with your friends? Every time I plan an outing, I have to make phone calls inviting friends, and then reminder phone calls on the day of event, and then last minute phone calls asking people ‘where are you bhai? The party has started!’. It is kind of slow and in-efficient.

I thought that there should be better way! What about using Google Calendar? Naah. No Way. The invites to people are not personal and on top of that I don’t have the email Id of many of my friends. I was stuck with making phone calls.

At the end I thought we can create a better way, a calendar using which you can create and send personalized invites, and you need to only have the phone number of your friend, relative or neighbor. So we went on to create it! Here is how an invite to an event looks on Wakerr-

We built the initial version with just the calendar, so that you could keep track of all the events at one place. You can easily see what are the events that you have scheduled at one place.

On feedback that we got from our friends and ‘friends of friends’, we also added chat to it, so that you can ping and talk to a friend before inviting him in some cases. We have attempted to keep all of it very simple till date.

I invite all of you to try Wakerr. As we are still in early stages of product, the feedback of Rodinhoods would be very helpful.

Overall, our attempt is to make something using which people actually can spend time with their friends, even if they don’t have much time to plan, organize and collaborate. Because as a product, we would make all those components very easy.

In the end, here is the quick list of things you can do using Wakerr-

  • Create and send beautiful invites to your phone contacts
  • See who has accepted the invites and who might be having other plans
  • Chat with all the invitees to an event
  • Your friends would be reminded of the event, as and when its time is up.
  • In addition to all these, you  can also chat with a friend, prior to sending an invite to him.

Here is the download link for getting Wakerr from the play store. Also if you have any questions/suggestions, just Tweet to me at @reborn_daily or at Wakerr handle @wakerrapp. You can also stay in touch via our Facebook page 🙂

Cheers!

  1. neeraj, i really like this!

awesome concept (the movie invite resonates totally!)

    the name sticks.

i went to your site and i saw DO THINGS TOGETHER – this should be your positioning!

i must add that this is one of the few showcase posts that has been perfectly posted!

just add your twitter handles (personal and of the app) and we’ll blast this over social. i’m going to share this with my friends especially my movie buddies :))))

  2. Thanks Asha for your compliments and inputs.

The name has an interesting background story, lets just say that we wanted our friends to not be sleeping literally, or in front of computers sometimes. Hence Wakerr.

About positioning, I must say, Do Things Together is short and concise. As founders, we want to tell more about things, because telling less is sometimes hard, and we are mostly overflowing with energy, so we keep explaining on and on. I am developing the discipline to put all the narrative around that line.

My twitter handle is @reborn_daily and that of the app is @wakerrapp. Must admit, the Twitter handle has not been used in a while. We have been more active on Facebook. Added Would add them to the post.

Looking forward to you and your friends having a great experience with the outings as well as the app 🙂

    Thanks again!

  3. This is useful for event organisers and people like us who keep planning outing with friends. Just want to know, though at initial stage my friends haven’t downloaded this app – except option of sharing anyother way to inform them about this event via mobile number.

  4. Hi Manish

If you press the settings button on some phones, or in some other phones, press the “menu” item visible in the app as three dots, you would get a share option from where you can invite your friends using email or any other app of your choice.

Also if you go to profile section, and add Facebook to your profile, you would see an “Invite From Facebook” button show up, using which you can invite a friend and he would be notified on his Facebook app on Android phones.

    Thanks 🙂

  5. hey neeraj,

how has the response been so far?

    would love to know!

  6. Hi Asha

The response has been lukewarm but it is good for us, as it has allowed us to get a good feedback from the people who have been the initial users. With their feedback, we have added event discovery to the app using which you can discover events happening near to your current location, so that you don’t have to go to Google for research when you want to go out with friends.

We are also adding ‘video invite’ wherein you can add 20 seconds of video to the event invite, allowing even more personalization for people.

Would surely keep you posted. Also would love to get some feedback from you 🙂

  7. once you’ve added all your new features, pls feel free to update this post, neeraj 🙂

  8. Yes I would 🙂

  9. Hi Asha 🙂

Just wrote a new post about the updates that we have made, check it out-

  10. Hello Manish, now you can invite anyone using Wakerr, even those who don’t have the app. And they don’t need to download/install the app to get your invite. Your feedback was very important because this was a pain point. We have launched a new version which removes the earlier limitation!

  11. Neeraj,
