Our previous post

Here is an attempt to introduce the problem that I face on a regular basis and see if it finds synergy with yours. I love meeting people, I attend events and travel a lot.

The problem I face most of the time is to learn about the people am about to meet. Who is the person am about to meet, do we have common connections, do we share anything common – maybe movies, music or golf. How do I start my conversation with him/her?

As I mentioned above, I travel a lot. I tend to miss out meeting many people at a particular location, because I don’t recollect they are there. It would be nice if a system provides me aGlobal Map, showing where my contacts are and when I had the last conversation with them. This would help me pick up the thread from where I left.

Another challenge I faced was to keep my multiple calendars synced (I have 3+ calendars) and navigate from my personal to work calendar to figure out the right time and place to meet. Keeping the concerned person informed about my where about and also share the information publicly, if I so want. Share my whereabouts with my spouse (if I want to) and share only information needed with the outside world.

Once I sent out any marketing material, sales deck, NDA, MSA, contract, I had no clue if the client opened the document. In some cases I would get to know that the client opened the email, but there was no way for me to figure out if the client opened the file I sent him or which pages interested him the mostHas the client read the complete document or missed the key points.

That’s when we decided to create a product which we felt, through market research is a relevant problem. This product solves the above problems and brings in some cool features too. And that’s exactly what Relatas.com is about.

We are not stopping here, we are adding more features that adds value to your life daily.

As we take the next steps would love to get feedback on the product from the group. The system currently supports web login and please do enable cookies on your browser for smooth operation. If you would like to talk with me please schedule a time on my calendar and will get on it: www.relatas.com/u/sudip

  1. Sorry, but this is toooooo confusing

Can you embed a video of what you do?

I dont understand (or can imagine) connections, e-mails, calendars, context ALL SYNC”D UP?

Sounds like Sardar Paav Bhaaji to me :(((

  2. Alok,

Appreciate you taking the time out and giving your feedback. We do plan to add a video, working on it. What Relatas does in a nutshell is provides is Relationship Intelligence for Sales Enhancement.

    1. Social Intelligence of the person you are looking to meet.
    2. Track document to the page level. See when the document shared was opened, how much time was spent on a particular page with complete page level analysis. Great for Sales &Mkt guys sharing it with their clients.
    3. See your Global meeting Map – track who and when you met someone globally. Pick up the right thread when you meet again.
    4. Sync multiple calendars

    Did you try signing up?

  3. I am not sure what problem are you trying to solve. Here is my take on all the features you highlighted above:

    1. Social Intelligence of the person you are looking to meet.

I use linkedin, facebook to search for people I am going to meet to learn more about them. The biggest problem you are going to face is to entice people to come to your platform. What’s the incentive? If you are thinking of getting information from other social platforms and show on your website, then it is no more different than going directly to those other platforms.

    2. Track document to the page level. See when the document shared was opened, how much time was spent on a particular page with complete page level analysis. Great for Sales &Mkt guys sharing it with their clients.

This is a bit spooky. If I am evaluating a proposal or a pitch, I would not like to be watched or to share my information with the person who I am evaluating. I don’t see a selling point here.

    3. See your Global meeting Map – track who and when you met someone globally. Pick up the right thread when you meet again.

personal notes, the simplest way to do this to maintain a personal diary or use a note making app on one’s smartphone. What’s different here with your idea?

    4. Sync multiple calendars

Duh?!? Have you ever used iOS, Android calendars? They already provide the capability to add multiple calendars and keep them in sync!

  4. Ravi,

Thanks for your comment. Great to see someone being so critical, gives me an opportunity to respond to all having similar concerns.

<Ravi Dawar> If you are thinking of getting information from other social platforms and show on your website, then it is no more different than going directly to those other platforms.

    >> Sure Ravi. You can go to individual platforms and check them out, no one can stop you from doing that and you SHOULD do that to gain intelligence before you meet. So let’s say for example you searched for Ravi Dawar on LinkedIn/ Facebook/ Twitter –> how many results would you get? LinkedIn – 7; Facebook – 100+; Twitter: No clue. People have various combination of their twitter handles. So to get to the right person how many minutes/ hours are you looking to spend and even after doing that will you be sure that you got the right Ravi Dawar? Relatas takes care of that so that you don’t have to send your precious time searching for the right Ravi Dawar across platforms and brings the information right to you. We are also taking it to the next steps (work in process) where we add intelligence to that data.

<Ravi Dawar> If I am evaluating a proposal or a pitch, I would not like to be watched or to share my information with the person who I am evaluating. I don’t see a selling point here.

    >> You can always opt out of the system and ask the sender to send you the document through mail. The advantage that we are providing here is you get to see all your client interactions in a single platform, if you like to use multiple platforms for doing multiple films, be my guest. If I got a meeting request through Relatas I would rather have all the conversation and document sharing feature there itself to see it rather than going to various systems figuring out what I did and when I did.

<Ravi Dawar> Personal notes, the simplest way to do this to maintain a personal diary or use a note making app on one’s smartphone. What’s different here with your idea?

    >> I wonder if you logged into Relatas to actually see what this feature actually does. See your Global meeting Map is not about taking notes, it’s about tracking who you met and when you met. So if I ask you how many people you met in SFO in Jan 2014 and where you last left your conversation with them? How long will that take you to check your personal notes or the notes you took on your smart phone?

<Ravi Dawar>Sync multiple calendars Duh?!? Have you ever used iOS, Android calendars? They already provide the capability to add multiple calendars and keep them in sync!

    >> Again, have you tried Relatas to see what feature it provides? Sync for sure, do they allow you to share all the synced calendars openly over the cloud as a single entity? Do the other systems provide you a facility to password protect your calendar on the cloud before you share? Do these system have the facility to provide SelectPublic access?

Relatas is a platform that we are building that provides you all the intelligence to help you enhance your sales experience and build the relationship with your clients. So look at the features as tightly integrated under a single roof rather than looking at them separately.

I hope you get the gist. Happy to answer any additional questions that you might have.

  5. @ravi Dawar,

I never heard back from you. Guess you agree with what I said. We launched few more exciting features, do check them out.

  6. I understand the problem you are trying to solve but am not sure there is a wide enough use case for this to scale.  The only demographic I think where this fits is enterprise big ticket sales.  But they already have salesforce and the rest.  Doubtful about its utility as a standalone for many people.  Maybe more useful as an app add on in the crm marketplaces.

  7. Abey, Thanks for your response.

Standalone, obviously not for people who don’t believe in scheduling a meeting before they call/ meet someone. But entrepreneurs/ VC’s/ Sales/ Mkt/ HR/ Consultants/ legal people who on an average have 10+ meetings a week will find our tool of great help.

I think the message that I get from your response is that we need to modify our messaging. We are NOT a CRM system and not competing with SalesForce/ Zoho/ Sugar or any other CRM system at this time, more so we would be complementary to their services and our intelligence can be fed into these systems. You last statement “Maybe more useful as an app add on in the crm marketplaces.” – Yes, possibly.

Even we thought that Relatas would be only for Sales enhancement, but as we talk to customers we are finding useful case studies in HR/ Legal/ Consulting spaces. Our Document analysis and scheduling tool (if you haven’t seen it yet) is a great value add to these verticals.

    Hope this clarifies your doubt.

  8. Document Analysis

So what we do at the document analysis level is:

    1. Track who has opened the document
    2. When the person opened your document
    3. How long did the person spend time on your document.

This becomes important from various angles and use cases.

  9. I signed up and hooked in my gcal.  I have a meeting for tomorrow but theres no additional info in the dashboard.  I can see the meeting in the cal but nothing else.  Do I need to do anything more?

Granted I don’t have that many meetings and everything is online and I hardly have any face to face jousting at the entrepreneur jockfest.

My concern (or rather curiosity) is where it fits within the current ecosystem of tools and thingajig productivity engines.  If I am meetings happy I would rather prefer to see the data in my meetings console (aka cal) rather than have to fire up another ui.

The other concern is, does your tool solve a large enough problem to scale into a profitable service?

Will try it out for a few days and see how it goes.

  10. Abey

Thanks for trying out Relatas. If I can ask you one more favor; please schedule a time with me on my calendar http://www.relatas.com/u/sudip and I can help you run through the system. Would also like to learn how you can maximize Relatas usage.

Here is what is coming this weekend.

    1. All your calendars (including Google) will show up on your dashboard.
    2. LinkedIn contacts on Relatas
    3. and few more features

  11. Sudip – took me a while to figure out what it does. Looks like it’s relationship intel, document analytics, scheduling in one. Which might be useful use cases, but somehow the essence gets lost in the messaging. Not sure what your target audience is but if you’re looking at sales folks in large companies, you might want to look at seamless integration with calendar etc. early on.

I can’t say for sure at this point (because I haven’t tried) but it might be better to start with one thing?

  12. Rishi – Thanks for the feedback. We are planning on an ex-plainer video for Relatas. But your point is well taken. We need to work on our messaging. The process starts with scheduling – post / while scheduling you can share documents and gives you intelligence on all key points:

    1. While scheduling – Intelligence on who you are meeting – we integrate seamlessly with calendar
    2. Doc sharing – who has opened the document; when was the document opened; how much time did the user spend on the document, etc
    3. Post meeting – Intelligence on that too.

I would appreciate if you could give it a try and let us know your feedback. Give it a try here: http://www.relatas.com. You may also try scheduling a meeting with me here and would love to talk to you and get your feedback and at the same time give me the opportunity to explain what we do. http://www.relatas.com/u/sudip

  13. I went to check it out and found this “Do make sure you add your Social Network details before you send the meeting request. ” Isn’t that adding a lot of friction to user experience?

Also, I was able to create a meeting request to test it out, and was able to successfully do so. However, I believe it expects people to enter contact details manually – that was the whole reason why I was talking about better integration with calendar.

  14. Rishi

Thanks for trying out Relatas. With regard to your first query, Relatas doesn’t force you to to add you Social Network details. It’s more of a request if you are trying to set up a meeting with me.

On your second query, the contact details need to be manually filled in only if you are logging in with your emailid/ pwd. When you connect with LinkedIn we automatically take your contact details from LlinkedIn, but the option to manually fill in the contact details is an option to the user in case the user wants to fill in contact details other than what is available on LinkedIn. Secondly when you add your Google Accounts Relatas seamlessly integrates with Google Calendar too and shows you the details on your Dashboard and Calendar. So in short Retalats integrated well with LinkedIn and Google.

I hope this clarifies your doubts. In case you have any further questions as I mentioned before, please do set up a time with me at http://www.relatas.com/u/.sudip and will be happy to answer them.
