  1. manish,

do you mean a generic noodle outlet or “maggi noodle outlet”???

because nestle already have mobile vans that sell noodles/cuppa noodles by the roadside… at least in goa.

  2. Asha, its Maggie noodles only outlets.

  3. manish – let me re-phrase.

maggi is a nestle brand. and franchise owners (in goa) already have mobile vans that sell & serve noodles. e.g. beach road, miramar

to do anything with MAGGI – you would have to open up a NESTLE franchise and i’m sure they dictate what to do and how to do.

  4. Asha my friend already spoke to Nestle and got basic approval,  do you think this idea click in Mumbai,  and if yes then which all areas to covered initially

  5. Well area to be covered would be youngsters hangouts like Bandra / Breach Candy.. next to / outside College Campus…  and late night joints like Bademiya / Ayubs / outside train stations …

  6. Amar, what do you think about morning outside college, afternoon at corporate hub and evening at famous joints

  7. The best part of maggie is that it can be had any time of the day

  8. Good idea.. I think final dish you serve should taste different than the boiled pack…that will work as differentiated ..to be a reason to eat on such outlet..
But you will end up being franchise for Nestlé and will never claim as brand owners

  9. Visit World Trade center opp main entrance in between the road there is a small stall giving various types of maggies and other snacks.. this is there usually Sunday evenings atleast.

  10. Thanks Amar will visit this Sunday.

  11. Yes Ashwin, we are going to do the same. Good point what you have noticed but then we thought if Hyundai Modi can sell cars as a franchisee and become brand then why not we ? Also Maggie is going to be substitute for healthy and reasonable food forever and we want to capture that market. What do you say ?

  12. 1.Also Real estate price will be critical in your business to keep the end cost down …I am not aware how will you resolve this one huge road block

2.Others also can contact Nestlé and get the franchise too.

    3.if you able to sell around.. Small..MEdium and LArge dish…@ 10/- 20/- 35/- combos Maggie+coke/coffee

You can do things: MAggie:manchurian/schez/chick/egg/veggie/ Maggie Mogalai

Did you ever try Maggie cooked in milt: it tastes like Kheer

  13. Also if this idea clicks..then lot more players will jump in including the street competition …the. One who scales rapidly will take it away from the one who cannot

  14. Hey Manish,

Go ahead.. this will definitely work..there are lakhs of maggi lovers out there..try to bring out different varities….m sure it will be a huge hit 🙂

  15. 1. We are thinking from volume based cost like jumbo vada pav.. Also lnitially will target malls and colleges

    2. that’s the major roadblock for us. We spoke to nestle people for the same but not received confident answers.

3.That’s a valuable input for us. We are working out the rough menu which can acceptable by maximum crowd initially.

Frankly Ihaven’t,  will try tomorrow as today don’t want to experiment.

  16. Also we are thinking to provide franchisee like tibbs etc

  17. Thanks Bhavesh for great motivation,  working on the same.

  18. Ashwin we analyse this point as well but then thought if jumbo vadapav can sustain even its so common then there is market for this. Also it’s upto taste and ingredient what we are going to provide,  what I have learnt if you can make people habit of taste of your food initially, then you have lots of repeated customers,  may other competetors comes.

  19. Manish: only take care of great branding since beginning, your food counters and shops should look distinct with bright happy colors, fonts, a character that suggests about noodle eating etc.
Yest saw a food vendor on street making cauldron full of noodles sold as chineese bhel @10/-

  20. Hi Manish,
A start-up called ” Mumbaiya Maggi” is doing something similar. They offer 101 types of Maggi. (yummy ….)
They also had a stall in the TES 2012 summit. You may connect with them.

  21. It will work no doubt! If you can top it up with other offerings, will be good to. Saw a branding of a pav bhajiwalla on a Coke delivery van. It said pav bhaji with Coke, Rs 40 only. Similar offerings with Coke, Pepsi, Cold Coffee and… ah well, Mango Drink 😛 can also move fast. Maggi also markets at canteens and also saw one on the peak at Rohtak, with boards that say Maggi Noodles Available Here. And at the ‘Here’ you get cooked Maggi!

  22. A little update, I found the facebook page.
Here it is, check the link
    – https://www.facebook.com/mumbaiyamasti

  23. Thanks Puneet, this is what we are looking out for. Gone through the website and FB and  going to connect with them.

  24. Nestle sells Maggi packets, which is their end product. A value added service like cooking can be added to it and it becomes a new final product. This is not like selling coke.
I do understand however, that you guys cannot use Maggi word in your venture name or branding activity. Apart from that, there is no nestle approval needed, as per my knowledge.

ON the funny side, in corbett park, near ram ganga river, there is no food joint except a small tapri which serves nothing except maggi and tea. Of course, they write it on a small blackboard to advertise 🙂

  25. and what do you know, the dude at mumbaiyamasti is a rodinhooder!

manish pls check this post out and connect with hitesh!

  26. Hi Manish,

Its been a month since you asked this question and you might have gone ahead and started executing. Congrats if you have!

You might have to think what will you be doing different if tomorrow, say, Jumbo or another similar player, who already has presence over there adds similar noodle/noodle combo offerings.

    My two paise.

  27. I am not sure if Maggi outlets are new thing for Mumbai but If I talk about Delhi NCR, you can find Maggi everywhere. every corporate office has own cafetiere and they serve Maggi there.. even you can find Maggi outside these offices very easily. Malls have Kiosks for Maggi. Near every College, Schools, office, market  you can easily find such chai walas who are serving maggi.

No doubt Maggi has a huge market. for me its not a good idea to start this.

  28. well I think its an idea which has got potential, as long as you can create the differential in the offering by augmenting and improving the product substantially. I have tasted the noodles offered by the OFFICIAL maggi outlets and it becomes boring and bland after the very first few bytes.

And to be honest I have already seen it being done, and taking on a big shape in the last few years. Check up on google “FYI..its Maggi” a similar concept rolled out a couple of years ago in my hometown Indore, and now expanding to about 25+ outlets in various cities, Including NCR, on a self owned and franchise model.

    All the very best.

  29. I think to answer Abhishek : to ask a basic Qn ? WHY MAGGIE in first place? Why do you want to create a product with one finished ingredient?

So there is no differentiattion there, instead should create separate brand and slog for it.
Why to relay on Maggie ?

In a nutshell Manish want to sell “tasty ,affordable, Aany time to eat, noodle” mission statement

Then might as well create it with your own noodles…..be it Noodlez/swirls/ doodle-noodle/ or any other name at least you own the IP.

  30. I agree

  31. Hi Manish,

Could you please provide me the contact details of NESTLE franchise team and their website link too.
