Ecommerce Mobile App cost query for mobile app developers

Hello friends,

I run www.artbugs.in – Sculptures, Paintings, Home Décor from top artists.

We are planning to develop a mobile app (download and install aka flipkart). My queries & understanding:-

1. We want the app to be for Android first, then ported for windows, then iphone

2. Reason being… though iphone bigger share than windows… it seems developer effort is more

3. What sort of app do we want? Broadly showing:-

– Products, Categories, Sub categories

– Pages viewed by users should be viewable later

– If cost increases, or performance decreases we don’t want search, we don’t want footer info like privacy policy, faq etc. We want social media plug ins

– We definitely want blog to be major part of app, as we want users traveling in trains, buses etc. to open our app and get tips like how to decorate your home, how to judge paintings, different type of paintings etc.

4. What would be the cost for developing first on android and then subsequent incremental cost for Windows and IOS

Look forward to inputs from mobile gurus and all!

Many thanks

If any attach please mail

many thanks again!

  1. Why a mobile app straight away? Why not wait for the website to tell you what is working – what is not so that the mobile app can then be curated accordingly?

  2. Why do you need a native app? Have you scaled up to a point where a native app would add value? If not do you have app marketing strategy & resources in place to promote adoption? Just a device agnostic responsive site should suffice in most cases till you’ve built significant traction..

Coming back to your question, what you need is a commoditized service and plenty of standardized off-the shelf solutions are available in the market.

I notice you’re using OpenCart and like all the major open source shopping cms’s, open cart too would have ready made mobile app extensions. Always go with the premium extensions ( for Support ). I’m guessing readymade native mobile app for opencart would fall in the $100-150 bracket.  ( for android & ios each )

  3. Hi Alok , I am starting a venture in taxi domain. In India the organized market is 95 % .
I am not having team and no techie to work along.I have challenges to build website,

android and iOS. As you are suggesting in this post to wait before making a app.

Would you also advise me the same to first launch website and make android after couple of months.

  4. Yatin… we have followed your advise… many thanks! We are getting good sales now from our Digital Marketing Strategy include paid and unpaid. Do visit http://www.artbugs.in

Also the site version 2 planned to be developed in Magento Passion Theme (paid theme… paid plug ins)… insights if any?
