Ask For Help

How many of us would buy apparels and footwear from an ecommerce site ?

A lot of ecommerce sites are cropping up these days which sell their own range of apparels and footwear with no third party brands and no physical store.

The apparels and footwear are their own range so we can’t standardize our experience of wearing the same size of apparel from one brand to other.

How many of us would buy an apparel without the touch and feel of a cloth from an online ecommerce site, though smart looking and same size as we wear…but might not fit us..not look good by complexion of the person..little intricacies of the fabric like too bright…feels a little rough on the skin…etc. ??

And also with the footwear like is it really comfortable…..light or heavy…..etc ??

Though these sites offer no question return policy but would the effort be worth enough…just in case ..???

Is it just the bubble which will burst someday or is it new trend and here to stay ??

  1. I wanted to buy footware but somehow I was not able to make a decision. Apparels like T-Shirts are good. Places like https://www.gountucked.com are good for T-Shirts, they come up with some concepts, so we buy concepts. Apart from this no buys yet.

  2. Aji,

Tshirt could still be ok…….what’s yur take on formals like shirts…trousers….or for ladies some western partywear…..and could you elaborate on why you were not able to decide on footwear ????

And ecommerce sites offering the whole bunch of products as mentioned above will continue to survive ??

  3. Tough for me, If I know the brand, I can buy it like I can buy an Arrow Shirt of my size as I already know how it fits. I may not buy a brand I know not (unless it is very different and cost effective).

Ecommerce is more than listing, removing the fear is very important …. I am working on ecommerce for India for last 6 months (Marketing side for a large group selling cars and everything else, 2 portals). Ecommerce in India still needs a lot of innovation (great opportunities to remove the fear part).

  4. more than quality / size of products, i have fear of online frauds. whatif someone hacks my debit / credit card data?

  5. Simple example I ordered 4 Aber Crombie t-shirts in NY, OLINE, without ‘Touching’ and trying, based on size description

out come- when I got the shipment, non of them was FITTING, hece I opted for refund

I runmarketing for a footwear major – and we ship a good 4-digit number everyday. As far as the finding customers part is concerned, it has not been a big problem.

Size related issues – in reality, very rare. Yes, the perception is that there should be lots of these issues. However, I can tell you for the month of December, we only had 1 SCM related problem and very few size related concerns. Must add that we have our own size verification mechanics in place to ensure uniformity across our stock.

  7. there are a lot of attractive deals on perfume these days….i feel it so tough to square on one, unless i want to repeat the one that i already have. e-commerce will surely need some innovation or some technology innovation which would lets us touch, feel & smell.

  8. Saurabh- we firmly believe that the relative value that online commerce provides over conventional retail is much larger in India than in developed countries. Organized retail is very under-penetrated, they operate on comparatively higher cost structures, and a large part of the country gets very little in terms of quality and contemporary brands.

For this and other reasons, the uptake of categories like shirts and trousers is likely to be faster than you might think. At Go Untucked, we are unlikely to get into “formal clothing”, but we do think apparel and accessories is going to be the most promising vertical in Indian eCommerce, not the least because of the margins it offers compared to electronics.
