Fun

Its interview time????

 Hi everyone,

I always used to think when I would go to my second year of post graduate course and then I will face the much awaited interview for recruitment.

People say that the time one enters the room for interview, the interviewer decides to take him or not. Well, in that case a lame person would be never selected ( its a joke , plzz dont get offended! ) or HR is the gen next version of Nostradamus !

Well, I finally got a chance to face the interview, but accidently I had to clear the GD or the almighty group discussion ( or group debate ) round! Personally speaking, I never back the idea of GD becoz its like 5 wolves howling and you become the 6th one thinking that the HR would listen and understand what you are saying by setting aside the howling voice of other 5 ‘generous’ wolves.

It went the same way as I thought. the GD turned into a flashy fish market with a bird view of mini parliament among 10 people with HR looking like a helpless yet decision making parliament speaker.

There were aggressive remarks on each other statement as if they have lost the bid for life in a Las Vegas Casino! Almost 5-6 people were talking simultenously on ‘God knows what’ type of matter. It seems that a dog with 5 heads has emerged with only 1 bone to eat and thus quarreling taking place.( this dog should contact J.K Rowling for fame ). Finally I put up 3-4 points, thanx to the vaccum created for a tiny moment. I dont know what HR was looking for but Out of those 5 howling wolves, 4 were selected for Interview. Other 5 students including me didnt knew even a single statement said by them as an individual.

But the boss was HR and GD was the key to the interview which was not awarded to me.

But one question remained in my mind- can howling get me the key to interview which in turn can get me the job???

    Meeting Etiquette!

I am a hard core fanatic when it comes to meetings:

If I am going to be 1+ minute late, I will sms and mail the party apologizing.

Usually I expect folks to be BEFORE time for their meets with me – and if not, at least ON TIME.

There is also a general rule we have at 2win:

    – Arrive at a meeting ON TIME

    – After sitting for 10 minutes, remind the party by sms/e-mail and also tell the receptionist.

    – Repeat the process between 15-20 minutes

    – LEAVE – Just walk out AND LEAVE on the 31st minute.

    HOW I HIRE PEOPLE

    I am pretty lousy ‘Hirer’.

Given that I worked in the family businesses for years before I started my Digital Journey, I had never been interviewed for a job, so really don’t know of the best practices of Interviewing (if there are any).

Almost 12 years down and possibly seeing 500+ folks graduate from 2win ‘academy’, I just thought of sharing how I hire people.

    1. Time

I am paranoid about being on time personally, but am pretty flexible if other folks are a bit late here and there. If candidates are late for an interview, I’m OK with it. I respect that there could have been some trouble on the way or just leave it for the benefit of the doubt.

    2. Papers

I may have browsed the resume for agreeing to meet the candidate, but during the meeting, I shun all papers. If the person gives me her CV, I turn it down and place it on the table. I just don’t believe in reading someone’s ‘history’ when the person is in front of me!

  3. Hi Sir,

I am really very glad that you replied to my post. It was really very justified and reasonable reply from you.

I am not a complaining person. Rather, I enjoy the result to overcome it next time.Since it was my first time, it left me with a dark satire thought.Do people really value the caliber of the trainee through GD sort of chaos forum. It was my first battle and it took me to a great surprise after watching the ‘gladiator’ prototype model of GD.

I am an avid follower of your blog as well as your interview on various websites.

For you , I want to say only one thing……………You are having an attitude of great positiveness and charm.

  4. hehehe..simply good you are…:)
