Mumbai Startups

Hi All,

Thought of having a single place where I can find info about “Startups in Mumbai”
Got inspired by google maps and “Madrasmade” and thought there should be something for Mumbai as well.

In an attempt to represent “Startups in Mumbai” on a map, created this “www.mumbaimade.net“.

Inserted by Alok:

It’s just something for the Startup community in Mumbai

I am not the coder, got this done with the help of unknown person (Irfaq Reza) from Banglore, who offered his service to code the map for free. Idea was simple and clear to create a Map of Startups.

Why Mumbaimade:

Since the startups are made in Mumbai, hence the name “Mumbaimade”

You get all the info in Single Place, like Startups, Incubators, Investors, Accelerators, Co-Working places, Consultants, right on the map.

Easy to locate the service which you need nearby to your location, since the listing are pin pointed on the Google Maps. Know you are in company of which startup or competitor

Easy way to connect with fellow startups in your Building, Area, or locality, City

A handy reference guide for people who want to work with Startups, since they can apply to the startups near there place.

Do give your Feedback / Suggestions to improve the features or usability of map most welcome

Also would like Rodinhood Members to Suggest some ways as how can I make this map more usable for Startups?

After I created Mumbaimade, similar site have also came up for other cities like Delhi, Bangalore (by Irfaq) etc.

P.S: We are still working on the site, you if find any bugs, do let us know.
Also looking for Volunteers / Contributors to work on this initiative and help me add more and more Startups.

Regards
Kamlesh

    app is quite usable .

maybe you can add tags to categorize the startups so that they can be found easily .

also maybe a mini forum to barter stuff , get feedback .

    great job for mumbai .

    cheers

    karan

  2. hI Kamlesh,

The idea is already in use ………. the site where you posted has all in itself ……… yet if you want any help contact Asha ….. She is the best to help you out in this idea ……. she can make you contact the right people who can help you grow your idea ……..

You should also read about T.I.E.- The Indus Entrepreneurs and also know about various other sites like Quora, Hatch.in to name a few …..

  3. Great initiative!

  4. @Karan

Thanks for the suggestion and ideas. Sure we will try to add more features.

Will also try to get in touch with @Sampad and explore the possibility of working together

    Regards

    Kamlesh

  5. @karan

One of the reasons why posted on Rodinhood Community is that there are lot of people who can be part of the http://www.mumbaimade.net .  The whole idea of mumbainmade is connect startups and entrepreneurs in Mumbai only, whereas there are communities for all India and globally.

My idea is simple just one single platform to find resource in easy way. For detailed discussions and Q&A, Networking, the forums of Rodinhood, TIE, Indus Entrepreneurs etc are good. I just want this platform to be the first point of info in a MAP Form for anyone who wants to know about Startups in Mumbai.

Also in order to understand if people are open for such Simple and Minimilastic platform hence I am trying to validate my idea and Initiative.

Will also talk to @Asha about her view on this idea and how she can help me out.

    Appreciate your time and gesture

    Regards

  8. @Karan Ahuja.

Please don’t call me Sir..:) M not that Old !!

I had replied to individual comments, so there no confusion, however for your reference the first comment was for your post in which I had also mentioned about Mr Sampad and the 2nd reply was to Mr Karan Pandhi (mentioned about Asha)

    Cheers !

  9. Hi Kamlesh,

    • we entrepreneurs will be more benefited if we r listed on ur map and some xyz common man finds us we get new business

    • business associations are much easier to make than acquiring the attention of a customer

    • I can see money rolling in if it is a genuine B2C

    • u can sync your map with gps too

    • ur reach to common man will increase

    • also create an android app for this

    • let them search for a service and ur map will highlight the startup

    • I’ll pay you for no. of search… for listing me, even for sale, etc

  10. Hi Kamlesh,

absolutely cool site! loved it more because it opened so smoothly here where the net speed is what used to be in late 90s!!

the concept is awesome, no matter if you r not the pioneer of it. if one can do better, credit to him. a few suggestions

    1. the details of business show the address. i guess if it displays email id and telephone number, it may become more relevant. site link is a good idea and is great source of free publicity to new start ups where any kind of publicity is good.

    2. Dont think of monetising it anytime soon if you can afford it :). this has potential to grow big and god willing if it happens, opportunities to make money off it will automatically present themselves to you.

    3. Wish u had thought of indiamade.net and have links to cities incl mumbai and others. that would have launched it to a bigger canvas. the fact that bangalore is considered the biggest hub for start-ups, u wud be missing the fun there. i guess u can still do it with a little tweaking of the site. may be a great idea to include atleast the major IT cities such as pune, blr, delhi, chenai in addition.

would look fwd to ur site

    regds, Sanchita

  11. @aman jha

Thanks for your valuable suggestion. Will try to work on the lines to make it more useful in terms getting business to startups either by Consumers or by Companies.

We are making the website mobile responsive, so the app would not be needed I suppose.

    Regards

    Kamlesh

  12. Hi Sanchita,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

It’s good to know that the site is opening so fast, even in slow connection (never thought of this feature).

Completely agree, we are not the pioneer, however we can try to make it better and yes credit would always be give to the person who does it. In order to make it better I am seeking guidance and suggestion from the people who can benefit out of it.

We are certainly taking the contact details from the person, however its optional for them to make it public or private. Keeping it public would not be a nice idea,we might add some filters or restrictions so that only genuine people can access. We don’t want anyone to misuse the data.

At this point I am not thinking of monetizing it and I don’t see any reason for me to monetize in coming months also…:)

I had thought of making an all india map, infact there one site for all india, however its becomes very difficult to manage and market it. We already have the bangaloremade.com up and running..:)  Depending upon the response we get from people we would expand to other cities. If someone else starts with Indiamade.net, we will start with a new name. What I am looking at this point is to make more useful for the people and I still dont have the proper answer. I am trying to do crowd sourcing the idea…:)

So question still remained unanswered which are

    1. How it will be helpful to startups / entrepreneurs?

    2. What would make you to come back to the site?

Looking for more suggestions on the same.

    Regards

    Kamlesh

  13. awesome initiative. I filled out forms for 2 of my companies. What is the time you guys take to review and make the details live ?

  14. Try putting in yahoo/google store locator(in our case we can call it startup locator) . I did this back in 2007 for one of my clients. Not sure if it is functional but here is the link – https://www.vfishdesigns.com/store/pc/storeLocator.asp?mode=bnm

    Cheers,

    Sikunj

  15. @Himanshu Mody:

We have approved your listing. You can check on the site. Do give ur feedback on the same.

    Regards

    Kamlesh

  16. @Sikunj Savaliya,

Thanks for suggestion, the link provided by you is not functional now.

Tried doing more research on Google/Yahoo Store, did not find anything concrete.

Can you mail me at kamlesh1089@gmail.com  would like to understand few things from you.

    Regards

    Kamlesh

  17. Thanks Kamlesh , looks good.

If I am allowed to be a bit greedy , any chances of adding logo’s to the listing when it pops up on the Map.

Am sure you know how we entrepreneurs love our company logos 🙂

    cheers

  18. Try using this link : https://www.vfishdesigns.com/store/pc/storeLocator.asp and add the ?mode=bnm manually once the site loads

I checked it using the Zip code as Chicago, Illinois 60657 (Or Just click View All Stores button there )

Does pop up a Map with the Stores located there 🙂

Site is very much active and this is a good example to use the Idea as shown by Sikunj, Monetarily

  19. You can also Check this Site Works on All India, though using yourstory details and Names of the Startups

    https://raveesh.co/startupmap/

Maybe you can Use the ones on TRHS 🙂

BTW the BUG of the Location markers going to Africa on your Site resolved yet ?

  20. @Darshan Bhambiru

Yeah, checked that, its pretty interesting stuff.  It seems the trend has began of mapping startups in India…:)

I am looking at where people can come and register themselves and give there opinion on the site, don’t want to scrap the data from somewhere else. There’s high possibility that many companies have closed down, acquired etc. Data won’t be accurate, if I just pull it directly.  Instead we will try to reach out to maximum people making them aware of the site http://www.mumbaimade.net  and asking them to join.

We are still solving the issue. It’s just how  one puts the address, Sometimes google pulls properly, sometimes it behaves on his own. We are on it and hope to find a solution to it soon.

Any help to solve the error would be appreciated..:)

  21. Great initiative just few doubt .

    1. why mumbai made not made in india ?

    2. Why just few information and one page , why did not you made a social platform ? you could have earned quite money from that

    3. what is your future plan for mumbaimade ?

    regards,

    Nitish Mehta

  22. @Nitish Mehta,

    1. Well I wanted to start something from Mumbai, had thought of all Made in India in the beginning, but cut down to Mumbaimade for simple reason Money and time and also validating the concept.

    2. Initial idea was just 1 page of website to give you precise info in 3 clicks. It would be great if you can suggest some ways to make it more resourceful site. I am here to get more and more feedback. If I can make money it would be bonus…, however not the main criteria.

    3. I am still looking for better option. Trying to crowdsource the idea. Please suggest if you have something will be happy to incorporate.

    Regards

  23. Finally Got the Logo Done with the help of Saravana (Pay as you like style) – http://www.mumbaimade.net

  24. Hey – just wanted to let you know about a competitor I came across: https://startuptown.in/

  25. @Harsh .

Thanks for info. Yes I’m aware of him. There are many sites like http://www.mumbaimade.net has came up

https://thestartupbrewery.com/ – Is the most identical to https://startuptown.in/

    bangaloremade.com ; https://upinbangalore.com/ ; https://hyderabadmade.net/ are also there

The code is open source and WP themes available, so its easy for anyone to build it.

I am not surprised that people are building stuffs around map, it”s good for me and the community in the long run.

The point is what is the next level? I think which none of us have figured out.

Do suggest us as how you would like to shape us such community?

    Regards

    Kamlesh

  26. Maybe startups can register for free, and you can build a platform on the site where startups can use you as a vendor to get in touch with consultants/vendors etc (eg. lawyers, HR, etc that specialize in startup work) verified by you?

  27. Good job really innovative.
