  1. name of the site?  what does it deal in? sourcing? share some details which can help make some decisions

Sanchita, ( we run http://www.indiacod.com, an e-com site selling primarily mobile and PC accessories, so we may look for either synergy or a new line)

  2. Hi Sanchita,

Please check http://www.CitynU.com, It’s an shopping portal that delivers City Specialties. It’s a marketplace model Our core focus is bringing all the local famous specialties on one platform. However, we are open to explore new stuff ! Please give me your email id and i will contact you!

  3. So Shopatplaces.com has a direct competitor now. All the best for your venture

  4. hi

Did check citynu as well as shopatplaces. Both look strikingly similar, almost identical. Ofcourse there is market for more than one player in almost all segments of e-com. so best wishes. you can reach me at indiacod@gmail.com or my business partner Indrajit at dtektrading@gmail.com.

Marketplace model is extremely difficult for new players. its almost impossible to get big and serious sellers. why wouldnt they go to ebay or flipkart? also since sales will be sluggish to start with, those v few who will join too will lose interest n focus.

the effort involved in getting sellers onboard and their online account maintenance plus ensuring quality, sincereity and honesty by them is v v hard. even the biggest cos with elaborate processes are still struggling with this. i guess, it will take years to even get some kind of traction, forget, profit n valuation.

the site though looks colourful n interesting. but i m a strong believer of bird in hand being better than many in bush. start small, start self, own products so that u can control post sales activities and grow slowly n steadily.

Sanchita (http://www.indiacod.com, we sell mobile accessories primarily, do check out to get a better idea of what i m trying to say, we have listed about 6K+ items on site and have an inventory of more than 40K total number of products! )

  5. Hi Shivaani,

I’ve been looking to explore possibilities in e-commerce and I have sound technical background. I have developed e-commerce sites using Magento and Django-Oscar but none of the project is live. I don’t have very strong technical background but I do know Java Programming, Python Programming, PHP Programming, Ruby Programming, C++ Programming, Android Application Development, Python-Django Framework, Magento commerce – community edition, HTML5, CSS3, javascript, jquery, mySQL, PostgresSql, Joomla, wordpress etc

I know my way around github, VM’s, cloud platforms like Heroku, AWS, GAE.

I’ve seen your website and I think what you’ll need is your presence as a shop on facebook and not as a page of shop on facebook. I can do it in Magento which is BTW world’s best e-commerce framework. Contact me if interested at chetan.s.kaushal@gmail.com
