Rules for Financial Advising

Hello Everyone!

I’m a freelance programmer and want to know more about financial advising. In India as a doctor, pharmacist, or CA require a license or certificate to operate. But does any financial adviser require such?

I know there are many certification courses are available for financial adviser but are there approved? There are many firms providing financial advising, are they official?

If anyone have deep insight about this topic, please share with me.

Regards.

Neel Patel

  1. I’m the founder of Futurewise a fee based financial advisory firm. To answer your question, yes there are certifications for financial advisors, the most popular being that of a CFP (Certified Financial Planner). I’m not a CFP though. Sadly, although CFPs are synonymous to doctors most of them cannot perform even a basic operation coz it’s too easy to become a CFP nowadays and they lack the practical knowledge.

Fortunately, unlike health where you routinely require a doctor, in case of wealth with little bit of knowledge and time commitment you can be your own financial doctor.

If you do not have the above two, you should look for a good advisor (may or may not be a CFP). The following post may be of help. https://www.subramoney.com/2011/08/can-you-do-your-own-financial-planning/
