Startup Idea: An eLearning platform to help college students maximize their GPA/Percentage

Of most of the things that I have faced in my college life, one has always been getting a good GPA/percentage or at-least trying to get through the exams. And I presume I won’t be making much of an assumption when I say most of the college students face a similar problem.

Just to confirm my hypothesis, my team and I conducted a survey of 700 students in different engineering colleges. The motivation behind this was to figure out the reason why students think they aren’t able to get good GPA or clear the exams. Following turned out to be the biggest reasons:

  1. Not having the access to the right/required content – Most students start studying only before the exams. And when they do, they realize that they don’t have access to the required content. So they reach out to their friends and mates to ask for the required material. Getting access to the content is time consuming, especially before exams when the time is limited.
  2. Not knowing the exact components of the syllabus – After getting the access to the content, the next hurdle is to find if a topic is coming in the exam or not. What should be studied and what not is big matter of concern as time is a very limited resource just before the exams.
  3. Not having someone to clear doubts at the end moment – Once the students get to the task of reading through the content, they have doubts. Some of the students are fortunate to get them cleared from their peers, but some aren’t – the reason being – time constraint. Friends are not able to help because they are also caught up with studying their own material.

So we realized there needs to be a solution that provides the college students with:

  1. Real time access to the relevant content assembled according to the requirements of their syllabus.
  2. Provide a peer to peer interaction layer over the content that is made available – features like summary, group study, be-my-teacher etc.
  3. Introduce an innovative way to make the copyrighted content as affordable as possible for the students, as students don’t like to shell out money.

Therefore, my team and I are working on an eLearning platform that introduces the above solutions and guarantees college students with an increase in their GPA/precentage. We have named it Learnifi (spelt as Learn-if-i). Our business model is to charge students for the value addition that we are providing to them, and not for the copyrighted content.

Following are some of the screenshots of the platform:

This is what we are guaranteeing at Learnifi:

Please help us with your feedback:

This is my first post on TheRodinhoods platform. Although I have been a regular visitor to most of the discussions, blogs – mostly Alok sir’s poetry, I haven’t really contributed with any content or been helpful with my suggestions. And yet I have this ironic expectation that people here will help me with their feedback. But I assure you that in future I would chip in with my views as well.

Please help me with your suggestions/viewpoints/critiques.

Thank you for taking out time to read this post.

  1. If you are referring engineering students ( i was — way back in 2003) and i believe things havent changed much since  then 🙂

The Best way to increase score is by studying the last 5 years question papers.

So would be great if  your site could:

    1. provide solution to last 5 years papers

2.Tag questions that are important – have repeated often

    3. Make it user generated content- let the users/students post answers to queries.

Students who study last min are not ones who want to understand stuff, they are ones who want to pass/score well (ironically) . So make it extremely exam oriented/score oriented.

  2. awesome feedback hardik!

arjun – you might want to keep seeking guidance from hardik. he’s into education! (coaching classes)

  3. Thanks Asha.

Arjun you can connect at hardikkh@rediffmail.com if you need any support.

  4. Amazing startup Idea.

Wish I had this facility while I was doing college. Though GPAs were not important to me – still additional knowledge would have added more aspects to understanding.

I wish the college students best of luck – because they are the ones who will benefit from this and you are the lucky mascot.

Also – do inform me – if passed out guys can also join in college guys.

  5. shaalaa.com is our website where we provide more than 5 years of question papers to students of Engineering, Commerce, Arts, Science, Etc. And its FREE

Selling individual chapters is a great idea, but the hurdle here is scale as not all publishers agree to sell chapter-wise. They have copyrights.

  6. I couldn’t agree more, Hardik! That’s completely true and I think that would go a great deal in us attracting the students to our platform. Thank you so much for this awesome feedback.

  7. That’s great Anthony! I would like to get in touch with you on the question paper aspect of shaalaa.com

As for the publishers, I recently met one of the major engineering publishers to get license for their educational content for our MVP. And they have no hesitation in slicing down the content, until it makes them more money. So that wouldn’t be a problem.

Thank you for the reply 🙂

  8. For sure you may Sagar. 🙂 Its always good to catch up on the concepts that one missed while sleeping through the classes. But yes, you can.

Your comment – “Wish I had this facility while in college” means a lot. Thank you for replying. Will let you know as soon as we launch.

  9. Thank you for informing me that Asha 🙂

I surely would like to connect with you Hardik. Thanks for the help. I will mail you soon.

  10. Hi Arjun

Great to see portal help students to enhance their GPA….I have my own reservation on your portal name

learnifi i found it bit difficult to keep in memory, as we see number of domain names now starts with ‘learning’ and some related extension to make it easy to join and remember, so in this cluttered space some out of the box name can make difference i think so….i ref back again to remember your domain name,

Some name easy to connect, both words should be very familiar or some wacky name also will do.

Just my view think over it

    Wish u good luck

  11. Thank you Mr. Prasad for pointing that out. I see your point there. I hadn’t thought of it in that way. But would surely discuss it with my team. Meanwhile, if you any good name comes to your mind, do let me know 🙂

Thank you so much for replying.
