Most word games today are all about jumbled letters. Be it Scrabble, Boggle or Ruzzle. SIGNTIST is here to change that!
And we dream that one day Coldplay will dedicate their song “Scientist” to us!
With zero knowledge or experience in gaming and technology, Signtist was a challenging project for me. But I believed in the idea and decided it just had to be made. Relying on my expertise of consumer psychology, my team and I put together the design document and UI screens. And then found a developer who was in another city. Believe it or not, this game has been made without my ever meeting or talking to the developer! Gmail Zindabad!
And we are extremely proud of what we have achieved. There is always room for improvement and we will keep at it, but the game is intuitive and unique! It improves spellings and vocabulary. Signtist can even sit right next to a crossword in the newspapers. This project was funded on Indiegogo where we raised around 1lakh rupees. We are now trying to raise money for the online version of the game on Catapooolt. We think this can be the next Sudoku, but this time from India!

THE IDEA:
You know how we unknowingly make a pattern while typing an SMS? Signtist does the opposite. It gives you the pattern and asks you to guess the word!
The concept is the reverse of typing a word on your T9 mobile phone, therefore; there is a familiarity aspect to the game, making it borderless and can even take on various languages.
With over 600 puzzles to solve, this app really gets your gray cells buzzing. There is a “Category” section and a “Vocabulary” section. The former has over 20 topics to choose from, for eg: Animals, Countries, Sports, Languages etc. The latter has 5 levels with words from the English dictionary in increasing level of difficulty.
SIGNTIST BOOKS:
One year in the making, this GAME was first launched by me in the form of books on Flipkart and Amazon. Signtist books were the first and only puzzle books to be launched exclusively by Flipkart. The e-retailer gave Signtist 4 prominent banners, 2 emailers, 1-week long contest and a mention in the Editor’s pick. All this completely free of charge because the team was hooked to the game and believed in the idea (attached are some images of the launch month).
The books are doing well and we have had a lot of learnings from the online and offline sales, which we incorporated into the app development. We tweaked the app to cater to the demand and feedback we got from over 100 buyers, who wanted many more categories of words. We also took our time with the UI design, because we wanted it to be very simple yet very international. The game is free with in-app purchase and is offline.
We have Mentos as our sponsor for the app since it goes well with their tagline of “dimaag ki batti jala de”.
