Diabeto’s crowdfunding experiences at the awesome Mumbai open house

Hello Rodhinhooders,

Thanks for the awesome response at the Mumbai open house early this year. All thanks to Asha for giving us this wonderful opportunity.

It was amazing to see so many entrepreneurs come together and learn from each other by sharing their experiences. So for those of who missed it, here is my piece of the presentation.

I’m Hemanshu Jain and one of the co-founders and manage operations at Diabeto. 

My Diabeto journey started when my childhood friend Shreekant Pawar (also the co-founders at Diabeto) came upto me and informed that his dad has misplaced his file and that his dad is a diabetes patient with multiple other complications along with it. He also informed that his doctor or his clinic never maintained any digital records to keep track of their patients. Which is why his dad had to undergo all the tests all over again.

This made us think, how do we solve this problem? Shreekant got the idea that why not we come up with a hardware which can be a universal adapter for all the glucometers and send the data wirelessly which can be accessed by anyone and from anywhere.

So both of us order an Arduino board and started making a prototype. But every product needs experts to make it happen, so we hired a team of professional hardware developers and came up with this cute little birdie

 What is Diabeto?

Diabeto is an open source hardware which wirelessly transfer data into a feature rich mobile app via bluetooth. Inside the app the user can update other information like mood, activity and food (carbs) which are important data points for analysing blood sugars. All the data from the app gets synced to a cloud server and gets further displayed on a web application which can be accessed by a doctor, hospital or by anyone who has the access.

For every product based start-up getting the product launched is the major challenge. We were called by a lot of VCs they liked our product but wanted traction.

How do get traction when you don’t have the money to mass manufacture your product?

Our solution to our problem was CROWDFUNDING!!!
