Hi All,
Though few of you guys might found it silly or funny or waste of Time/Effort/Money but being in Digital space I wanted to invite friends digitally but those free Invitation site and fb event wasn’t that happening and thus thought of creating something different and came up with my wedding site – WedSite !! 🙂
Would Love to have your reviews and have few points to discuss as a business model.
Have a look at the same @Â www.121212wed.in
Now I want to know if its a workable business model, would somebody be interested in funding a company which will exclusively design wedding websites?
1: Been sharing this with loads of friends since last 1 month and have got almost 8 orders and I am sure its becoming a trend now.
2: The cost is not much but gathering the content and Creative design is a task, as one need to sit with couple and understand what and how they want it.
3: Usually one spends close to 800,000-2,000,000 INR on a middle class reception and thus having a website for RSVP and showcasing the couple’s journey is not a big deal for them.
The best part is its a seasonal (2-3 Seasons/year) affair but then one site requires atleast 8-15 days depending upon the concept and a team of 2 developers(1 Senior+1 Junior), 2 Creative guys(1 Senior+1 Junior),1 Visualizer and a copy writer can handle atleast 20 websites a month.
So if we charge say 75,000 to 100,000 INR per site its a 1,500,000-2,000,000 INR/month Rev business and what is required is a team of 6 with a CTC of 200,000 INR/month overall.
So what are your views, is it a good idea to have something like this? Is there anybody to fund the business, what is required is some Business acumen not more that 4 months Salary assurance + some Media PR cost. Also all these are very broad numbers and once I get some interest from your side we can discuss and talk about it..
Why Me? – Because I know how to understand the nitty-gritty and take Brief from client.. Also I am an hardcore execution guy and believe in #LetsMakeItHappen aspect !!
Look forward to your views..
Thanks,

Hey Mayur,
In India around 400 million people are going to marry in next 15 years. The average budget of Indian wedding is more than 15 lac INR inspite of 37% Indian living below poverty line. And its not a seasonal affair; yes the number of wedding from October to February is more but wedding planning which includes wedding websites is a 12 month affair. So as far as opportunity is concerned, the wedding business has huge potential.
Though there are number of websites which offer free wedsites or charge some amount for white label wedsites. The amount charged by them is pretty less than what you have mentioned above.
Only premium weddings would be able to afford the cost of Rs 1 lac for wedding websites. You are looking at earning 15-20 lac per month with expense of 2 Lac per month in a country where you get a decent website built for few thousands.
Either you should look at the price or change your target group from Middle class to HNIs.
Do contact me at manish@shaadimagic.com for further discussion.
PS: I run a wedding market place http://www.shaadimagic.com , one of its kind wedding planning portal in India !!

Hi Mayur,

This site also provides a website or web page for the couple. I’ve seen some people using it. I’m not an expert to comment on the business model aspect however, I’m sharing some views below.

@Mayur…I agree with Manish..Change your TG. Start small, so even failure will be failsafe. Even today in this digital world cards and personal message are a great way to communicate about your wedding. The wedsite can be an extension of the cards. So i think you should go ahead and also get into card designing.

Mayur,
The cost of 75K-100K is too much and would not work UNLESS you focus only on the premium customers, for whom this will be just another expenditure. You may also think of adding this on to other utility things, like photography, etc. Standalone, it may not be viable. Also having such a team may not be needed.
I had made my wedding invite site at http://www.eweddding.com, free for one year. Made my own site with all features, even uploading a Bismillah Khan mp3 file for the background music, and boom! It was such an attraction then.
The figure of 8 lakh to 20 lakh for a middle class reception is also in the upper bracket. Middle-class marriages typically get done in under 5 lakh, including in Mumbai. That’s the Hindu marriages, which I have been privy to. Not sure of other communities. Here I am excluding capital expenditure, which continues to stay with you (like gold, clothes). The marriage hall comes typically at under a lakh to a lakh and half, 4 pm to 4 pm. Thereafter the lunch-dinner tea breakfast etc assuming 500 people for all, is maximum 3 to 3.5 lakh or 4 lakh. So they may not spend another lakh on this. Making a facebook page is easier and may serve the same purpose.

Thanks.

My friend’s startup Weddings9 offers a free wedding website. It is a DIY solution for non-tech users to quickly create a Social invitation website with Facebook integration.

Yes I guess I missed the primary Target Audience aspect which is not for the middle class segment but for the marriages worth more than 30lacs and I am sure the numbers are in 5 digits atleast.
Secondly when we talk about other kinda websites, the look is very template type or very corporate types but what I am talking about is a full-fledged personalized website which will feature the story in creative manner and also the designing…
Yeah have seen the website, would love to explore the possibility of working together.
Cheers,
Mayur.

Yeah doing 20-25k site is not a problem but then the quality gets affected but yeah surely can look at doing it and the Khandaani site option is little difficult as nobody wants to put all that data online and that too for public..
Sridhar V
Agree with ur points. The Rs.20-25k works only if its feasible – Â meaning someone wants a 5-10 page site with basic info, otherwise its not worthwhile. The Khandaani options is more like a site shared with known people (or if they desire make it public) – prob. like Google Drive (google docs type), which can serve as a backup even in case photos/CDs are lost/damaged. I agree with your view that it may not become a great business model…..but just a thought.Â

Hi Mayur,
I am in a space which follows after the Wedding, but probably is one of the most important tasks on the Wedding Check-list – THE HONEYMOON ! So I do understand what you are saying.
Instead of just making a mini-site or a Wed-Site, you can think of doing a Wedding Registry. Wedding Registries are very popular in USA and other Western Markets, where instead of giving “Shagun” on the wedding day in the “Shagun ka lifafa”, the couple joins a Registry website, and circulates the link amongst the invitees. This link allows the invitees to contribute whatever they want to, as “Shagun” or “Gift”. This combined gift corpus is then automatically given to a retailer, or merchant. The couple in the background has already given a list of things to the merchant to be bought for their new life, or new house. And the merchant uses this gift-money, and then adjusts it against the total purchase.
This, I think is a very good idea, and can certainly apply to India as well. See : https://www.myregistry.com/

Mayur,
Consider turning this into a family site, starting from the wedding (perhaps you can even begin from the engagement) going on to honeymoon, creating a sub-family and taking it from there! Â Charge on an yearly basis with photos, videos, posts etc (with content from the family, tweaked to make it attractive and readable) plus SEO thrown in for easy searchability!!
