Hello,
Jog your memory back to early 90s. If you were an 80s kid, you would have had the distinct pleasure to savour this piece of music.
Well, the song got stuck like glue with everyone in the Bumper team. And the impact was as thumping as the song – we were able to launch the Bumper in less than 2 months.
On a serious note, Bumper is a car repair and service App launched a week back, tested among close friends and family. Since Rodinhoods is a community of entrepreneurs and startup enthusiasts, we thought it would be a good idea to float the concept and get some initial feedback.

This is cool. Just 2 back I discussed the same thing with a friend. I have been postponing servicing of my bike for a long long time. I am sure other lazy guys like me love this idea. Please add bikes also. The main challenge will be convincing people to hand over their cars to unknown person and build a trust. Lets be in touch.. 🙂
Sanal Nair
Thanks Mubaid. Yes, building trust is our primary focus. If you have any ideas or thoughts on how we could offer a hassle free experience to the user, please do email me sanal@bumper.com.

I am working on the same thing in ShipNinja. The user experience people get while browsing your website or app creates a strong brand perception, so the 1st step will be getting them right. There are lot many things I am experimenting with. Let’s connect 🙂

Thanks Asha 😛 and yes it’s now available only in Bangalore but soon expanding to other cities. Our focus is to offer a great experience to the users in Bangalore before we move to other cities.

Nice Idea Sanal !
Just a Suggestion:- if you can add a feature in this app where person can list down all the problems he/she faces before car get service like sound from rear gate, charger cap missing, and many similar small issues . It’s usually difficult to remember all of them. This way all things we listed can be sent to the service station who is taking our car and we can keep track of all issues.
This may be helpful 🙂
Cheers !
Sanal Nair
Thanks Navneet, will bring this up in our next product meeting.

Interesting idea. Do you guys provide any insurance etc. for any unforeseen damage/accident that might happen to the vehicle between the pick up and drop off? If not, how do you plan to handle that situation?
Sanal Nair
Good question Rishi. We did consider this aspect before we employed our own drivers for pick up and drop. So as part of the process, we do a preliminary check if the car is insured. If not, we do not proceed with the request.

iTunes? Mumbai?
Sanal Nair
iOS in the making. Stabilizing the operations and setting up processes before we move to another city. For now, we’re just listening to the user and learning everyday.

Nice idea. More than being a boon for lazy guys, people in metros like Bangalore know the insane traffic and hate spending two hours just to take the vehicle to and from the service center. But these days most authorised dealers have started offering free pick up and drop service. And also most people who buy a car end up getting it services from the dealer where they bought it for at least a year till the free service coupons expire. And habits die hard. Unless the service is crappy or the center is too far, most people have no reason to look for another service center. Even for insurance claims for dents and scratches, the car dealers have tie up with the insurance company and take care of the follow up and reduce the hassles. Your app would definitely be helpful for people who have moved to a new city but how would it entice in snatching away existing customers?

Nice idea & Interesting.
Q1: You have only the authorized service stations listed or FNGs also listed? Same goes for dent/paint shops?
Q2: Who will you charge (eventually)? Service centers or the Customer — for this service?
Cheers,
Sanal Nair
Thanks Sridhar. ‘Bumper’ will gradually evolve into a one stop platform for all your car problems. If you notice we have added a query bar in our App so we understand the real problems of car users. This will help us tailor the product to their needs. Besides some of the instances where an App like ‘Bumper’ can be handy are:
Hope I have tried to address your queries.
Sanal Nair
Thanks Shahnawaz.
1) For now we’re only working with Authorized dealerships to ensure that the quality and experience for the user is great.
2) Honestly, we haven’t thought about how we will make money in the short run. We’re not charging the customers currently. And for the Dealerships, we have to give them good numbers to be able to command a price.

hey sanal,
how’s bumper doing??
