I started working at a bank right after my engineering, and barely a month or two into the job I knew this isn’t what I am supposed to do. To add to my misery, I was practically mocked upon by some peers and seniors, primarily because of lack of any banking skills whatsoever. This pushed me hard to look for alternatives and do something else. But what could a boy with an engineering background, working in a bank hope to do without either wanting to do an engineering job or work in a bank. I also didn’t want to go for further studies, neither did I have the money for it. So I thought, let’s do something creative in life, without a degree and grow basis whatever skills one has.
You got a dream, you gotta protect it. If you want something, go get it. Period.
Now I didn’t really know how to get a job without having any prior experience or a degree in a given field, but I thought of giving it my best shot, simply because there was nowhere else to go. To main peeche pad gaya. I searched the net for practically all advertising, PR and event companies in my city, and sent out CVs explaining why I am applying. Didn’t know the ABCD of PR, advertising or events, but I just knew I need to get to work at one of these places. The emails were followed by frantic phone calls to all kinds of random people, the HR managers, the executives, sometimes even the CEOs of the companies! Some magic finally happened, I got an interview call. I went and I didn’t get through, simply because I didn’t know a thing 🙂
Some more magic followed, and I got a couple of more calls! By the third interview, I had some idea of what this PR field is all about. And then happened one of the most important miracles of my life 🙂 I got the job, made the switch from banking to PR while I was essentially an engineer, despite knowing nothing much about all three of these fields. My interviewer said I speak a lot, and I guess I didn’t prove her wrong in the time to come.
In life, a lot of things are near impossible, par agar hum peeche pad jaaye, to shayad bahut kuch ho sakta hai. There’s no real reason why I shared this, but I think the tiniest bit of inspiration can inspire somebody. To lage rehte hain, peeche pade rehte hain, jo hona hai wo khud ba khud ho jaayega 🙂

I love this
The meta point is that an IDEA is not enough. YOU HAVE TO EXECUTE (Peeche Pado)
Prateek Shah
Yes, absolutely! Everybody thinks of a million ideas, but executing even one is really difficult! The harder it is, the more you need to strive, and peeche pade bina kaam hota nahin!

the engineer who got into PR with no prior experience and then evolved into a digital marketing career. it’s interesting how we start off doing something and end up doing something else.
i was supposed to become a fashion or textile designer. after my graduation i needed some space from clothing & textiles so did another degree in journalism & communication to give more direction to my writing skills.
i never thought i would fall in love with advertising & PR and make them my profession.
it’s interesting how our careers evolve.
but if you want something badly you have to peeche padho.
thanks for the reminder prateek…
