Hi guys,
I’ve just created a short guide that can help you design a professional and versatile logo for your company. I have kept the instructions as simple as possible and I sincerely hope that it helps you.
I would to love to hear your comments on the same and do share some of the other pain areas in your startup.

Timely post, Nishchal! Probably a quick hack (read free) to learn how to use Illustrator in a day can come handy as a add-on with this! If you do have a link, please mail to varun@trippy.co.in. Thanks! 😀

This is quite extensive and helpful! 🙂 Will keep it in mind, have to design quite a few logos over the next month 🙂

Wonderful post Nishchal. A check list kinda thing to finalise a logo design.
I notices a statement in the presentation “Computers are useless. They can only give answers” – Pablo Picasso.
Now, I know Pablo Picasso ( one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century) died in early seventies. So I casually googled for it, and I got the info that he said the above statement in 1968. So how relevant is the statement in the current age?

I think logo should not have any relation with your niche of business it shall be an Identity, which can be used in place of your Firm Name…..
People will recognize you by your logo if its unique and something different.
I remember the the MD of KKCL just saw our Logo (He just saw the feather) on invoice of its KKCL Addiction’s Website invoice and he told this is the same company which did the Email Campaign for us in last September.
This kinda impression logo is meant for.

Hi Varun,
Quite honestly it takes a while to get a hang of illustrator, there are a lot youtube videos you can watch and experiment simultaneously. If possible try Corel Draw it’s far easier to use and with lesser features but at this point it doesn’t matter.
Also, if your concept is ready then you could catch hold of a digital printer and he could create it for you, guess for a little money. If you still need help let me know.

Thanks Nameet, I hope this helps you 🙂

Thank you Dr. Welling.
To be honest I just loved the fact that quote was contrasting to the next slide – Get a computer.
But seriously, if you read the quote in the context of creativity, it is quite true still. In a 1980 presentation Steve Jobs said – computers amplify human capability. Ultimately it boils down to our creative mind. You could start the design using a computer, but trust me it will overwhelm you. I hope I answered your question.

You are right a logo is meant for identification, and frankly there are a lot of ways to approach designing one, but everything can’t be explained simply. This is the best I could do to explain it to non-designer entrepreneurs and share some do’s and dont’s.
Thanks for the comment.

If you really want simple, here it is
1. Google “free logo creation”
2. Click on any of the top 4 sites that come up
3. A first class FREE logo can be generated

Nope. What you use google free logo sites, you get a ‘bhindi bazaar’ variety of nonsense that you can spend hours sorting.
Also, it seems you did not read this post at all. its not about WHERE to get a FREE logo – its about HOW TO make a brand logo!!

Design is a word that’s come to mean so much that it’s also word that has come to mean nothing.

As a designer, I strongly believe that a good logo is one that transforms a product into a brand, rather than just being a DIY design. I invite you all to have a look at my new blog, a collection of logos done by me for clients worldwide. More designs (close to 1000) to be posted soon in the blog. http://www.logosforall.blogspot.com
