An email which started the Point10 Journey!

Hi All,

I am Jatin Chaudhary, Co-founder of Point10, which was was founded in April 2009 with an idea on creating a books exchange portal for engineering students; but vision was to empower people with common resources. For the initial 3 months Point10 was run from a cyber cafe. During this time we were supported by many prominent people including industrialists, educationists, professionals and students.

In July 2009 we were provided office space by Mr. Sushil Handa ( Chairman – The FifthVeda Entrepreneurs ). This was a big boost to the team as not only it helped the team to get a place to sit, but it meant that now we have an active mentor to learn from. Many activities were undertaken by us in next 6 months i.e. Books Funding worth Rs. 2 lacsTech SummitClean-tech Summit, Research on Agriculture and Clean-tech Industry, visiting colleges and villages to share the knowledge with people.

In April 2010, we were invited by Prof. M S Rao at S P Jain Institute of Management & Researh (SPJIMR) to talk about the Entrepreneurial Journey of Point10, which made us  realize that in process of building Point10, We have added great value, build the best team, and are finally on the visualized road towards making Point10 a self-sustainable enterprise. Though till that period we were just doing the things for which we love doing. We didnt had any revenues or business model in spite of 5 people working full time.

Then we realized that ‘Entrepreneurship – Building self-sustainable model’ is the best way to realize our goals and since then Point10 has transformed into diversified company fostering the spirit of Entrepreneurship for positive social impact by building self-sustainable and scalable enterprises. We choose to move out from the office space provided by “The FifhtVeda Entrepreneurs’ to own rented office, to experience the true entrepreneurial journey.

Now, We have consortium of 3 separate registered companies.

  • Point10 Solutions – Face of  Point10 – This includes Entrepreneurs10 forums, Point10 Industry-Academia initiatives and Point10 Events.

  • Leverage – Led by Parth shah –  First Rural BPO center of Leverage is set up at Sadra Village, near Gandhinagar.

  • Point10Jobs – Led by Kunal Chaudhari –  High-end Talent Acquisition division of Point10 to help companies find the ethical and competent professionals.

An email which started the Point10 Journey!

It all started with a simple Books portal idea in April 2009. At that time myself and Hiren both were just trying to analyze and understand the feasibility of the project.  We both were very much excited and wanted to go ahead with this idea even if doesn’t make any business sense.  After 1 year we are still going ahead (probably) without making much business sense of what we do. :)

Though we’ve grown significantly in terms of Vision, Impact and Team in last 1 year but the basic DNA of Point10 remains the same “It is not meant for GREAT BUSINESS. The sole aim of the project is to help students and instill a feeling in them they should also help others whenever they have a chance to do so.”

I was just writing down the things that I wanted to do with Books10 and after some time found out that this would be interesting to share with some prominent personalities in the Education and Corporate Field.

Following is an email which I had sent to at least 500 people individually with the subject line: “Books10.Org – A step towards Social Empowerment”

Next morning I saw emails from Prof. Anil Gupta and 5 MDs of very large Enterprises in my inbox. By that evening, I got a call from the office of another large corporate house. Visit @https://p10.in/Testimonials

This was something incredible which we never dreamt of it. I was amazed and was questioning myself: ” How can such wealthy and busy people find time to read my long email and reply back? “

It just reconfirmed our believes and I immediately resigned from my job at Redington India Ltd. to pursue Point10 dream, and since then we never looked back.

We still have miles to go before we achieve our goals and have much larger social impact with our initiatives.

Subject: Books10.Org – A step towards Social Empowerment

Hi Sir,

I am Jatin Chaudhary (BE (IT), Nirma Institute of Technology, 2001-2007) .I am starting this Books10 project with the sole aim to help students and instill a feeling in them they should also help others whenever they have a chance to do so.

Books10.Org – It is not meant for GREAT BUSINESS. The sole aim of the project is to help students and instill a feeling in them they should also help others whenever they have a chance to do so.

Books10.Org – is a platform where students can easily find the books that they required and also sell their old books to their subordinates. This portal would be highly intelligent and state-of-the-art WEB 2.0 product.

Books10.Org – You can easily post your used books in this portal and your juniors will proactively see that the books that they are really looking for are with you. You’ll also get to know which of senior has done which project. It will help you to identify to whom to contact for help. You can also take help from the Books10 Project Consultants for any queries.

Books10.Org – Proactively provides you all the information that u need regarding the books that u need.

Books10.Org – I want to appoint Books10 Project Consultants in each college. These students will be carrying the ideology of Books10 project. I will get them trained with the people who have the same ideology.

Books10.Org – Initially I would fund the books for 10 students from engineering colleges. I want to instill a feeling in them that the way I am helping u at this point of time you should do the same whenever u get a chance to do so. There is nothing bigger than helping students and make them feel that they should also help others. They are the future citizens and if they carry this ideology then we will have a SOCIETY to watch for.

Books10.Org – I want to create an Ecosystem where everyone thinks that proactively they should put in some efforts that they should help others.

Books10.Org – This idea came to my mind because I faced lots of problems during my engineering days. I always had problems buying the books and always wondered whether I will get any external help or not. So here I am taking the initiative will be funding books to 10 engineering students as part of the ideology that Books10.Org has.

Books10.Org – This Books10 momentum is really happening. Some of my friends have agreed that they would fund the books for 1 student for 1 year. So now the total 16 no. of students will get the benefit from this project. Trust me this number is going to increase by the time we intend to launch this project. Ideally we should start this funding activity from the next semester, which will start in June-July 2009.

Books10.Org project is my step towards Social Empowerment. I want to involve as many people as possible. I alone can not do everything. I have a vision what I want to do and I want to involve as many Technical developers, Graphics Designers, English speakers, etc. as possible in this project.

My next step would be the Projects10.Org. I will get the best students from Guj to do their internship @ Point10. We wont be charging them..We will give them the best of exposure with GREAT IT giants. We will also get the MBAs for their intern @ Point10.

Need your kind guidance and help in this ideology towards social empowerment.

Thanks and best regards,

Jatin Chaudhary,

  1. five people working full time without any revenue or sales!!! must be tough!

i always believed that the business that you are getting into should have a profitable proposition in the foreseeable future. if thats not the aim and it is only to palm off to someone else, then such ventures normally go down and also take with them the reputation of its founding members..

Social Initiatives are a great idea but again, profit must be built into it. For example micro finance business aims to benefit the “unbankable” population which is in majority in india. together with profit in place the business can grow much faster and in turn will benefit more people.

Hence even in social initiatives, Profit is not an evil. its a necessity on the contrary…
