As per my research for my coupon app
=> In General, all online coupons sites aggregate coupons from respective sites and then categorize them
=> I have seen very few players who are into local coupon business, not sure how to approach them
=> For online coupons it is all referral based, if you notice, when you click on get coupons it opens up the merchant site, in that they put a affiliate code, if you buy they get money. Does’t work for all websites.
=> Pros a good business can earn you lot, check coupondunia recently got acquired by Times. Cons, Lot of player in market you need to be good at SEO and provide Quality coupons and experience.
=> Can’t tell, worked out for some people did’t worked for few.
Cheers

Was that not found doable, or the information sourced was not workable ?
Why do you want to enter into any business which you do not have Any Experience about or also have any partner who knows something too???
Not going into the details here, It would always be a good idea to first understand if the Business is to your Liking or if You have the required Skillsets (Or can source them as per requirement) to make it your Business.
Start with Google your Good Friend 🙂 Do some basic Research!!!
If you would have Searched on TRHS you could have found some RH already into the same field to connect and discuss if not within your immediate circles.
Rahul from IZZI Deals which is into mobile couponing. Looking to expand through new channels and connecting with interesting people on the way.

Answering your Query for Coupons as below: You would need to read these links and others too likewise to understand more, since the more you would learn about it, the more details you would need to find again. The most relevant to check would be Groupon

5. Is the business model itself sustainable?
Online coupons are not a one-size-fits-all option. Do your research, anticipate the worst, and prepare for it. Offering a deal can be a great way for a growing small business to gain sales and publicity, but it can also have a negative impact if you’re not careful.
If you are not printing your own coupons (Printed Literally or Online as Codes or through Mobile apps) and are just the middle man for other business offering the coupons with a share for every deal coming to you, You can get a lot of options from various Dealers for sustaining your Business. It is a Volume game, What do you have to lose ?

Hi Angsuman, hope this might help.
Answer- You will have to approach local businesses and tell them that you will get them potential customers for which they have to give you a discount deal. If the business agrees to it they will give you a discount deal. Now you have to get this discount deals to the business’s potential customers who will be willing to try the business’s product or service for the discount.
2. How to approach merchants/ local shops for deals?
Answer – As you mentioned that you are planning to keep it local so most of the SMEs have their owners at the counter so they can be your point of contact or justdial will be a great source to get you the business’s numbers. You can call and take an appointment.
3. Revenue model of coupons/deals business?
Answer- What are you offering the business? If you are going to upload their deals on your website then they won’t pay because there are lots of websites already out there which does it for free for the businesses. You will have to charge the customers for the voucher.
If you are going to print the deals (like a voucher book) then you can actually charge the businesses which might cover your printing cost and then you can sell the voucher book to customers which can be your profit.
4.Pros/Cons.
Answer – Of What?
5. Is the business model itself sustainable?
Answer – Any business done in the right way is sustainable.
