Hello Guys,
Any idea how the apparel retail stores ( Brick and mortar ) source the inventory from the manufacturers?
I am specifically asking about Men’s branded clothing ( Formal shirts, Jeans etc.)
Are there whole sellers involved or is there a manufacturer sales representative who visits each newly opened store?

Subjective… many established brands work on two models side by side.
1) Own stores or franchisee where in manufacturer send directly to store.
2) Distribute to various retail outlets via agents/whole-seller route. This is based on territory/region/area. Herein the manufacturer sends to whole-seller who in turn sends to retailers or sub-whole-sellers

Hi Amod,
Usually, the manufacturer’s will have a distributor who will sell to the retailers. For e.g, Madura Garments that makes Peter England (PE) brand will have a distributor for PE in most of the major cities. These distributors will supply stocks to retailers.
For some large retailers, the manufacturers might supply directly, but volumes have to really huge.
If you need to know the distributors for the leading brands, I guess you can either call or write to the sales departments of the manufacturer and they will connect you to the area distributor.
Good luck!

Thank you Guys for the feedback.
I would try to contact the manufacturer through this route.
Why are distributors so difficult to find for most retail SKU’s. I am yet to find even one distributor for men’s shirts. The internet is filled with retailers. Shopkeepers are adamant on helping out naturally
