I started Build in Bombay to increase collaboration in the Mumbai startup ecosystem.
The first Initiative is a real-time chat community based on Slack ( https://slack.com ) , which makes it frictionless to use as most startup’s are now using slack for inter office communication.
The chat is focused on addressing real-time applications such as AMA’s , live feedback session’s and discussion / planning upcoming meetups / events.
Currently there are different channels for different topics / purposes.
So far we have conducted AMA’s with Varun Goel , Head of Product at Tripnary and Siddarth / Nischal of CrowdFire.
Hope to see you Rodinhooder’s on the Chat. Join by filling the form at https://buildinbombay.com

hi divraj,
so i’m curious to know the story behind the story. what made you think of starting this community real time chat?
do you have a list of topics in mind? that would perhaps make it easier for all of us to understand what verticals your TA is interested in (do share more info about your TA as well.)
– how many folks participated in the past chats you have mentioned?
the more details you share the better!!
all the best!

Hi Asha,
I spent a month in Bali last year in the the town of Ubud which has a great co-working space ( https://hubud.org ) and internet entrepreneur community , among other things.
I met Peter Levels https://levels.io/ who had started https://hashtagnomads.com a Slack chat for Digital Nomads , that got me thinking on using a Slack community to increase collaboration in the Mumbai startup ecosystem , as I was also in the process of starting up / looking for like minded entrepreneur’s to share the journey with.
Mumbai is geographically a very large and sprawling city , and alot of people I’ve spoken to say that the startup / entrepreneurial community needs such efforts to increase knowledge sharing, collaboration and meeting like minded people.
The Chat community currently has 242 member’s which has taken over 2 month’s to achieve by doings things that don’t scale !
Hope to see Rodinhood’s interested in the Mumbai Startup ecosystem on Chat soon !

wow! why don’t you just add this bit on your post itself? almost everyone on trhs is a founder/aspiring founder – we all love to hear the WHY!!!
i remember telling sushrut last year that we should do tweet chats or some sort of live chats with rodinhooders of different verticals. let’s see if we can do this together as a joint event?
let me know if that interests you – we are planning something similar online (not real-time chat) so perhaps we can integrate the two. pls email me asha@rodinhood.com

I’ve seen other communities use Slack recently. We use Slack for team communications and it is great, but isn’t Slack more distracting for purposes like community building?
Divraj Jain
If live and breathe Rightway and have great productivity procedures in place then adding communities should not be any more distracting then the common culprits like facebook etc. , you can put off notification’s easily on non-core slack team’s.
Also do check out https://qz.com/297654/how-to-stay-productive-when-using-slack/.
Yes there are hundred’s of slack communities for a great list check https://www.slacklist.info/.
Cheers

Just signed up 🙂
Divraj Jain
Great , hope to see you engage with the community 🙂
Rishi
Thanks Divraj. I understand that there are ways to turn off notifications etc, but for me I guess it’s the format and layout that prompts me to take action; which unless is my core job becomes a distraction.
Would be nice if you could post if you/others feel that way after may be a month or two? 🙂
Divraj Jain
Sure will give you an update , both Slack and Forum’s excel at different use case’s , can be complementary , see https://nomadforum.io/ and https://hashtagnomads.com/.
