E-Commerce ! It is time to control emotions and do business (?)

Hi All,

Today the word e-commerce is used as much as entrepreneurship in India(I feel this).

I was having almost zero understanding of this word around 3 years back when i was working on an idea for my colleagues. We decided to help people in sourcing grocery, vegetable and running other errands in a cost effective way. The idea was to have a website to list products and services. Back end team to run the ops using a marketplace model (came to know the word few months back). Sourcing best products at the lowest possible rates was the idea. The plan didn’t worked out due to some unknown reasons (we really don’t know).

Now after 3 years, again we are doing something like (Cakehunt.com) this for a particular segment, cakes and chocolates.

In recent times too much has been discussed and written about e-commerce. Some big names have closed their stores, some sold out, some are finding it difficult to run the show and will be closed soon. People are discussing “Amazon’s entry in Indian market as a threat for Flipkart and other big names. Being a new comer in this segment, shall I worry ?

Then there comes a news of acquisition of Redbus.in by Nasper @ Rs 800 Crore (I never dared to write 800 Crore with all the zeros). Shall I cherish ?

I am really neutral about all these news. It doesn’t mean there are no learning from these events. We can learn from their mistakes (timtara) and success (no doubt, redbus.in)

We are starting the project because we identified a gap in the expectations and delivery. We think we add value to vendors and consumers. For me e-commerce is not a complete business, i think it an alternate channel to do business. We will sell our products through every possible legal way. Online, Offline and reference etc…

I am bit confused by the talks around me. Could you please help me clear my thoughts ?

(We are launching our new website www.cakehunt.com in a day or 2, which will sell and home deliver cakes from the reputed bakers)

Regards, … the guy next door, Ashish S Parik

  1. Let me Suggest you one thing, You wanted to start, and so you started it and so you continue it, you will come to learn the problems and how you can solve those problems.

In business don’t compare, be unique, provide the best service you can, you got people who look for best service in market and who even pay for that service. so you got people, you got world’s Big market. Be unique go ahead

     All the Best

  2. I think it depends on you, and what positioning you want to give to your business, if you just want to sell stuff undoubtedly online is just another channel, but if you want to make a scalable business and your core expertise is technology thn you should focus on online thing only and help people in selling their stuff online getting a commission to your desk.

Whatever you choose, first study markets, changing consumer behaviors, your financial and operational capabilities then take a bold turn and don’t look back.
    Regards,
    Ankit.
