Ethics at workplace … poaching ! employing without verifications !

This guy has quit in the most obnoxious way .. and two days later I know that he has been hired by an Agency that did NO background check on him. I wrote to the Executive creative director and I did not even get an auto mail reply 😉

And its the premier agency for German heavy weight automobile company ! !

My gut feeling sensed something fishy a month back but I though of his little kid etc. and was fooled by a fake and a liar who lied to me in my face till the last moment of how ethics and work meant so much to him !!!!

  • Bad work ethics like – perpetually late to work, absence from work without responsibility to the work assigned, getting obstinate if scolded fr non performance…. And then just not returning back to work after salary credited… Without the responsibility of handing over work or completing it…… ???????? What would u call an employee like this ?

    • Sejal Mehta Hey, terminate him. Before he resigns. Reflects very poorly on his cv. And do not give him good references. Trust me without a clean exit, the next job is going to be difficult.

    • Pankaj Umrania I can very much relate to this trauma. Register an FIR followed by a legal notice, give him a lesson, your work is related to Rights, you need to protect it. Let him learn a lesson for his life.

    • Pankaj Umrania He would hv spoke to u on friendly terms if he wanted to leave, I am sure u wud hv barred his notice period. His doing shows real unethical n inhuman behavior.

    • Sugandha Dubey ‎Pankaj Umrania exactly ! I mean no employer wants to hold a gun and retain people. This has left such a bad taste specially if the person was all honey sugar till the last moment !!!

    • Dipanjan Banerjee Facing similar issues on a regular basis at work place. Sometimes I feel totally disconnected with the new generation. Their approach to ‘ethics at work’ is totally different.

    • Sugandha Dubey ‎Kautilya Sharma you in S. Africa have similar experience ! thnx for ” good riddance to bad rubbish ” advice !

    • Sugandha Dubey ‎Dipanjan Banerjee If u at Caps Gemini too have similar issues i wonder if this needs to be addressed more seriously ! Pls read Pankaj Umrania ‘s comments. He has been thru similar stuff as an entrepreneur and its not funny how callous these people can be towards their own lives and ethics !

      Monday at 11:23am ·

    • Archana Singh for sure a liability not just for your company but for the industry.

    • Sugandha Dubey ‎Archana Singh u bet ! advertising industry 😉

      Monday at 11:32am ·

    • Pankaj Umrania Dipanjan you have touched d right chord. I see with this new generation majorly, they take companies and work ethics on ride. As an entrepreneur I take this as one of my moral responsibility to get such guys on track and explain general work ethics. Those who have sense will grow, others I am sure will be doing this for the rest of their careers and won’t be able to grow (vertically).
I have examples where people have left overnight smoothly just after a healthy discussion with their bosses (including myself), similarly I have seen companies parting their ways overnight on mutual grounds with the employees. All it takes is speaking your heart out in a correct way.

    • Dipanjan Banerjee In fact, such situations become too chalenging & frustrating especially for entrepreneurs. Big cos. can still absorb the loss with bench strength, etc. But for small firms firstly its difficult to attract talent, those who still join have very little commitment, needs to be coached and later they leave just like that.

    • Sugandha Dubey yes Dipanjan Banerjee Coach it is ! They need to be coached at the college level and mid job level.

  1. Alok can give more insights on this issue. He is doing a doctoral degree on this topic these days .

  2. yes, its his fb post that instigated me to post this. In fact i wanted to cal him and vent!

  3. Chill.

This type of attitude is very common and unfortunately a lot of companies do not do a background check. Very recently I have confronted someone with more than 20 years of Industry experience and who supposedly ‘helps’ entrepreneurs, for  recruiting unethically from my company and he responded to me that they had been ‘ethical’. World is full of hypocrites.

Need to take a deep breath, bounce back and look towards the future. For every 10 such losers you will gain atleast 1 superstar.

Another point, never get emotional in your decision making. Nobody will worry about your kid before leaving. Sounds harsh but true. My many mistakes have made me much wiser :-). Always have a fair and effective process to deal with this to avoid overreacting or under-reacting. Happy to answer any questions.

Alok, need a blogpost on this.

  4. I think you are getting over-emotional. You can dismiss him, that’s fine. Its for the future of the company and other employees.

But just another viewpoint, as a leader one should be inspiring, and even the best of people need that motivation, communication and connection.
