Hello,
First of all thank you so much for approving my account so fast. 🙂
I am connect to TRHS Discussions from a long time and love reading them. But there are few things I can’t figure out yet so need your help.
I worked for one year as a network engineer and then left job in Feb this year cuz I always wanted to start an online marketing company. Things are going good as of now and I am working from home as a web designer and social media strategist. But this thing gave me a tag of Freelancer which I never wanted to become. So I decided to get a small space and start it professionally like a micro enterprise.
I got financial as well as motivational support from my mother and I am just hoping that things will work out fine. I am working in the same field as a part timer since 2008. Please help me out in few things:
1. Office Space or Shop: Personally I want an office space where 5-6 people can sit and work but my family is more like get a shop so that more can approach you and its better than working in a hidden space. Which one will be better according to you my experienced entrepreneurs?
2. Friends and Relatives: At this point of time I am pretty sure that I want to do my own work but the pressure from relatives and friends I am getting distracts me a lot. They are always like “Businesses are not meant for people like us, get a job and start earning instantly”. How can I deal with it cuz these things somehow demotivates me. :/
3. Home to Office: What things I should keep in mind while shifting my work from home to office. I am quite familiar with the legal formalities and Acts now but what’s bugging me is that how to give salaries/PF/ESI etc. Basically how to manage accounts. Plus is there’s anything else I should keep in mind which you guys faced while starting your business?
Waiting for your valuable feedback.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi Sauravjit,
1) First question I want to ask you is ‘Do you really need separate office space and employees to handle your current assignments? Or you are doing so to get rid of Freelancer tag?’
In my opinion, if you can manage your work from home you don’t need a office for now, all you need is online showroom i.e. a Website that showcase your services.
2) There is no point in arguing with family on whether to do business or not. Because, if they believed in business then they would hv been doing business themselves. The secret to handle this pressure is to take their criticisms positively and improve and don’t pay heed to baseless arguments to quit business. Once you start earning your bread out of this business, your family will start supporting you. Always remember, your family just want to ensure that you are settled in your life and they think Job is the most secured solution.
3) If you really need people to share your work load, you can find part time working professionals, freshers, etc and work on revenue sharing per project initially, this minimizes the risk factor.
And if you want to employ, then go for contract system, this minimizes the mandates on you.
I hope this helps you.
Feel free to contact me. If you belong to Mumbai, we can even meet in person.

Hi SauravJit….
Pehle to you are welcome to this Family of Awesome Thinkers and Doers. And since you have already posted this Blog tells a lot about you that you a re willing to Ask, Experiment, Explore and Win.
1) If your work is limited to your team and you are not looking for Walk-in customers, Then an office space is better. because The Rent is Less, you can have a decent sized place and not a Train Dabba which most of the shops are in order to make fro shops in the same FRONT.
Also an office space some where on first Floor or Second Floor… keeps you away from people who come asking for Address, Away from the honking of Vehicles which disturb the though process.
By The Way… my father had the same view when i started up…. Eventually I took up a Office Space only and it proved to be a good Decision.
2) Though thye are your friends and Relatives so i must not say this…… but Bhagwaan ne humko Do kaano ke beech mein sar isliye diya hai…… listen from One… process in mind of what is to be stored and pondered and flush the unwanted from another. This will happen till the time you achieve the results which are heard by them through third party. Isliye….if you have conviction in your work and know that in another few years you would achieve what you are set out to… Then ignore.Â
3) For Salaries, PF/ESI. I suggest you should get TALLY. Should be simple to use and have provisions for everything. Would also suggest…… get hold of some College Student/Accountant who can come once in a week for 2 hours to your office and set your things in order. believe me… This takes lot of time for amateurs like you and me… and any default results in Unwanted and Avoidable penalties and headache.
There are many things one must keep in mind while Starting up……… One of them Which I will share now is that you should have atleast an Years Funds (Operating Expenses) before starting up. Without taking into consideration any Revenues you may get during the year.
One thing…… Agar kabhi you falter due to any reason , then remind yourself, That aapko apne liye to successful hona hai BUT also for your Mother who is Supporting you Financially and Motivates you every time.
Best Wishes… And keep visiting here often, Specially whenever you think chips are not working…. You will have enough positive Vibes to go back and start rocking again.Â

Hello Mr. Rahul,
Thank you so much for your reply. I dont know why but that mall isnt gaining popularity even if its in a very prime location. Office space is definitely a problem in west delhi and I dont wanna spend 1.5 hours of daily travelling to NCR.
Do we have to pay for maintenance as well if we look for some space in a complex? And any better location you can suggest in Delhi (North/South/Central)?
Thanks and Regards,

Hello Mr. Aman,
I do need a space not just because of the Freelancer reason but there are few other things as well like a place to sit and work for employees as the main motive is to start an online marketing company, not just website designing. I don’t have much space at home plus the disturbance at home. And even sometimes client asks about the physical presence. I have lost many clients due to the reason that I am working from home.
Thank you for helping me out. 🙂

Sj

Hello Gurpreet Paji,
Even I feel the office space is better, will try to convince my parents again. You are also right about the relatives and frnds thing. Actually your answer is what I was looking for. Plus you are from the same place so you know exactly what I am going through right now.Â
You clearly described all my queries plus some additional info you gave was also helpful. Will buzz you again in case I get stuck somewhere.
Thank you for your wishes. 🙂

On Point 2, I depending on your personality:
a) become a zombie when it comes to relatives. Just pretend that they live on another planer; ‘coz you are now on planet startup.
b) tell them that you have been given money to start up rather than you starting up make money.
Relatives are Gods Curse to Mankind. Meditate to get rid of them

Points noted down sir, thank you! 🙂

Can you suggest any nearby Rajorui Garden. All I need is a space for 4-5 people. And how’s netaji subash place? That must be expensive as its a major business hub.
