Layoffs, rejections and shutdowns have become a daily story now just like any other crimes you read in newspaper.
Highly funded start-ups try to do mass hiring and in that they offer high packages to newbies to increase the head count. After few days they are either rejecting or will shut down or will lay off after hiring on business calls.
In this process they are hurting sentiments of multiples. One, to whom you have hired. He/she must have already dreamt of a new home, where he/she will move in with parents. Parents must have planned “Ab shaadi karwa dete hai iski.”
Others are people like me, who are ready to offer a decent package as per the skillset, expertise, knowledge but no, that’s not possible. These guys have already raised the bar of the industry soooo high that people, who really have some innovative ideas, cannot hire a newbie. They demand a blood sucking high package.
On a recent rejection by one of the startups (which now is a “company”), I had commented to share a CV if you are a mobile app developer and I got a resume from one of the newbie who was part of the rejection lot. Before even we could talk about his skillset he asked how much I can offer him. He very clearly said he was offered 10L package from the company (which by the way had rejected the hiring).
I repeatedly spoke about what his expertise were and if he could work on certain kind of requirements but he forced on the package. I had to tell him if that is what is going to take the discussion forward, I cannot offer that much to you. I cleared myself that he is a newbie and I can offer him 4L and before I could offer him job security and surety of matching the current offer in 2 years if he gives promising results, he said “Thanks”.
Nothing personal but seriously, common man you don’t have a job right now.
This incident made me share this with you.
Note to VC backed startups: guys don’t poison the industry and newbies. I understand it may be a business call and all that crap, but pls understand it is killing others.
Note to newbies: think what you want to do. Have high paying jobs where you are a derby horse or would you rather want to work on something that really works.
I am looking for someone who has knowledge in location based app development. Proximity Marketing + Beacon is what I am working on. I assure you, it’s not the usual.
I am open for a partner in crime.
