After Chennai, Mumbai has started Mobile restaurant where they are going to serve food at the roof top which is going to roam around marine drive!
“Mumbai: The majestic Queen’s Necklace – Marine Drive- in the southern tip of the megapolis is all set to host a mobile restaurant where visitors can dine atop an open-air bus. In a first of its kind initiative in Mumbai, a private company on Thursday launched a ‘moving restaurant’ which will let customers enjoy their meals as they drive down Marine Drive, the four-km seaside stretch.
The service, launched by Chennai-based The Moving Cart, will include a 90-minute each ride along the Netaji Subash Chandra Road facing the Arabian Sea, three times a day. “We will offer 12-course vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals during the ride,” Moving Cart co-founder Hardik Shah said, adding one such bus is already operational in Chennai.
Food will be pre-cooked and bought from a nearby hotel to be heated and served to the patrons due to which prior online booking has to be done, he added. The bus has a capacity to accommodate 20 people on each deck. While the top deck is an open-air facility, the lower deck is air-conditioned cabin.”
As you can see they have customized the bus for that purpose to suit their business .
I want to customize a normal bus to suit my business..
1) How can i do that ?
2) Where i can do that?
3) How much is it going to cost?
4) Is it possible to run double-decker buses in city like Hyderabad where normally I haven’t seen any double-decker bus running?
5) What all permissions i have to take to run such customized bus(not necessarily double-decker) and how much is that going to cost?
Thank You very much in advance!!

Hey, For the sake of it, I’m wondering this interesting question has received no responses yet.
Sadly you didn’t also specify what did you mean by ‘customizing’ – is it simple wrapping up with custom content, exhibiting your biz details, is it customizing the ‘make’ of the bus or something like that? From my understanding, it’s plain simple as far as getting the bus wrapped is concerned. You’ve seen those cars wrapped up selling ads. They use vinyl stickers (and its variants) that you can get done at relevant vendors’ place (find a vinyl printer or distributor on Justdial near you).
How much? Last time I checked it falls somewhere in the range 15-20 rupees per sq.ft. Not sure about the present figures.
Before you decorate her, drop in at your city’s transport department plus the municipal corporation to access special permission for running ads. It’s very much possible. There are recurring charges you need to pay per square feet area, and in your case since you’ll be literally advertising your business on a moving media, it might be considered under moving advertising media for which the charges are slightly higher.
I had done a bit of work on this in an attempt to kickstart taxi-top adverts in Kolkata and hence gained some info which is what I just shared. (I dropped it later for xyz reasons is on another day’s playlist).
Hope it helps. Cheers.

Ah!! finally i got the response …Thanx mate…!!
I was indicating at the ‘make’ of the bus…..
As, you might have observed in the article…they have customized their bus…like they have made it roof-less so that they can serve food at the roof top…and also they have customized it to make it like a restaurant inside….i want to do exactly the same…!!
Suppose, i want to divide my bus into chambers…where each chamber is again going to be designed differently…how can i able to do that?
If i can give you as an example like the vanity vans of film stars…sanjay dutt, sharukh khan, salman khan..they have bed rooms, wash rooms etc etc in their van…i want to do somewhat similar to that?
Its like designing a bus like designing a website…you designing a website according to your needs & want..i want a designed bus according to my need and want!!
Thanks Again….wish i will get answers of my question done…thanx

Ashish,
Mobile refreshments / now restaurant has always been a great idea and continues to be so.
In regards to the bus, any vehicle that needs customization or alterations from the manufacturer’s original design must be pre-approved by the RTO and the manufacturer. You will need either a consultant who has a license to body build or get it yourself.
If you are getting it yourself, you can create the design of the bus interiors needed and use the mechanics at a body building shop. If you are in Mumbai you would find them at BKC Kurla junction below the flyover.
If you need a professional to do it for you like a smaller version of DC you could go to Khar or just ask any of the racing (you will find them through racing clubs within each city) enthusiasts for contacts.
A bus is a commercial vehicle, hence the cost would be in the range of Rs. 50 to 80 lakhs for just a single bus. You may not require to purchase the entire bus but just the engine and chassis which can be modified to hold less or more weight. The bus inclusive of modifications may cost you close to 1.5 to 2 Crore.
Another option would be to go straight to Volvo/Ashok Leyland and ask them to build you one.The cost might turn out to be similar with a little negotiation.
All the best!
