Your city – DELHI/NCR Really ???
Do you live and work in any of the following cities – Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Gaziabad??
What you feel when online retailers and many other sites provide you option to choose your city DELHI/NCR ? Do you feel proud about your city and want it listed separately? Think Again ??
I was really curious why they do that – Is the population is the measure?
Checked the 2011 census.
Found some amazing rankings and numbers for Metro city population
Gurgaon – 54th with 0.9 Million population
Noida – 68th with 0.6 Million Population
Faridabad – 25th with 1.4 Million populations
Gaziabad – 21st with 2.4 million populations
Surprised with these numbers – I thought of checking district populations.
To my surprise many top cities does not feature in the list, so I doubted the sanity of the information as data from this website is being used in many websites.
Crosschecked the data on government website for above city population and more or less the data was accurate
So what are the listed cities other then top metros – All pass the test and really have 2.5 Million plus population but except Chandigarh with 0.96 Million.
So what do you think – have you always felt that you are living in a big crowded city with all the issues?
What are the financial and business compulsions? Why these online companies don’t want to create separate city as it is counterproductive and not what customer wants.
Do you really want to review 100s of deals offer for NCR, if you are living in Gurgaon or Noida? I don’t think so.
The traffic chaos, parking issues,Petrol prices, prohibition, drink and drive policing are good enough reasons to add too much cost to the offer.
My advice to all these companies is to drill down to the city level and offer deals at 5 to 10 Kilometer circle based on PINCODE. Customers can always choose and expand search to other cities for more options – give them power …what do you think?

Ashish – I believe Groupon and others are listening

Hi Ash, I agree with your point, however, I feel the penetration is challenge for these companies. At a pincode level, there will be hardly any deals to share with you. Moreover, most of the people are not really sure of their pincodes as well. I guess, that’s the major reason but I agree, at least these deals can be shared at a city level.

Kamal – They don’t need to present deals at Pin Code level but group at least at city level, As I said a Deal in Noida is not a deal at all for me 😉
