Hi,
We are into business of supplying customized and standardised uniforms to schools and corporates. We started this venture last year and have good response. Currently I and my team are thinking to expand the business. Our business model works as under :
1) We first try to get orders from school and companies for their uniform.
2) After receiving order we take measurements of our customers .
3) Since we dont manufacture on our own we have a network of jobworkers for different kind of uniform wears . We give raw material i.e. cloth to the respective jobworker and they finally prepare the uniforms for us.
Currently though we are getting orders but the problem we are facing is how to expand our network of jobworkers. As jobworkers work in unorganized manner it is difficult to get information and their contact numbers from services like just dial, indiamart and other online resources.
So we need help and suggestions on how to solve this problem and increase my network of jobworkers .

Where are you based?
Mumbai has a rich legacy of job workers.
Is this a really profitable business?
I understand that you have a lot of ‘school authorities’ to ‘handle’ to get their orders?
If you are serious, then I can promote this question of yours?

Hi Nitin,
Welcome to TRHS!!
Looks like you are a Chartered Accountant (CA) Ex Mithibai college, turned Entrepreneur with Interests in Travel, Adventure Working on Ace Uniforms with Your Brother Deepak Parmar Correct me if Wrong from around Golibar, Santacruz.
Andheri East, Safed pul, Chakala has a Host of Jobbers for Similar work done If you can make some Rounds there in the Industrial Estates for the purpose or also check around the Suburbs like Kandivli, Borivli and further ahead. You are already listed on all the Online Databases including JustDial, Indiamart, Sulekha and the Likes.
You can check with the Sewing Machine (Industrial) companies they should be able to guide you who purchase their machines likewise too to start with. With around a Years Experience under your belt you should have a few of the “Masters” known too, maybe start your own Inhouse Jobbers table, you can get a SME loan too for the Plant and Machinery, now I dont need to tell a CA about how to go about going with that too now, which would be better managed and controlled likewise too fro more Profits and less wastage.
If you have Orders, Getting the Job done is already, Half the Work completed as well!! Demand and Supply would get you the Figures for the number of Job Houses you can outsource the requirements too, let me know in case you need any connection locally can try to connect you to some I know as well 🙂
You already Have Alok from the SOCKS industry, in relative fields offering to Promote and Connect.
Though not sure how you employ “engineers” manufacture these assortments with the help of most modern skills and quality assured raw materials 🙂 That Seems to be Problem ? Maybe you can look at Semi Skilled Labors (Tailors) instead.
Hope this helps point in the Right Direction!
Happy Holi!!! Good Luck!! Cheers!

I am based in Santacruz (e).
It is not only profitable but margins are also good.
Ya, we have to deal with management , trust and other authorities to get their orders but than i think it is a part of this line of business and we have been doing from past one year.
I am very serious with this business and we are trying to build a brand in this segment. Though there are many players in the same line of business it is still an unorganised segment where schools and parents are not happy with their existing suppliers in terms of fitting of uniforms and delivery system of supplier. We have also started catering other segments like corporate uniforms , hotels , hospitals and industrial .

Hi,
I am amazed how brilliant your business is. I guess many entrepreneurs would go out on a limb to be in your position… you have customers and not enough production, whereas everyone else is in the exact opposite situation. 🙂
Some solutions that I can think of:
1) Scour the areas around northern Mumbai suburbs, and identify all tailors and mom-and-pop shops selling tailored suitings and shirtings. My thinking is that since a lot of people now buy readymade clothes, these shops’ businesses would not be very hectic, and a lot of them might be willing to make some extra money in their extra time.
2) Scour all sewing classes and tailoring colleges. I remember there is one tailoring college in Dadar. These newly trained “tailors” will definitely be happy getting some self-employment.
3) Talk to your cloth vendors and see if they know any similar workshops who do job-work. You can sub-contract your job to them or come up with a revenue-sharing / partnership model
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
