The purpose of this blog post is to show you guys a video I recently produced. Thank you, Alok Sir for advising me to post it here. The video showcases Ancient Indian Martial Arts performed by some very young girls from Kolhapur, Maharshtra. The video portrays the inherent strong nature of a woman.
But first, I would like to explain the reason behind making this video and venting out my thoughts on women, and how important she really is.
It is a painful sight to see our nation suffering from such evil bastards who commit crimes like rapes and murders. The news about Damini’s demise I got this morning shocked me. My heart goes out to the all the victims who had to go through the such pain from time immemorial. May their souls be liberated. I am not sure that strict laws will bring control over such incidents, or eliminate the problem totally.
The problem is, we have lost the sight of who we really are. We are a nation who looks at woman as a goddess. We worship women like Sita, Jhansi ki Rani, Ahilyabai Devi and countless others. Our women are warriors by spirit. Even our Sanskrit verses are so full of praises for women. I hope this small video invokes the same spirit again among our women.
One of our Sanskrit verses from Manu Smriti, the book that gives practical guidance to live in this world says “।। यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवता: ।।” : “Where women are worshiped; there the Gods reside.” Where have we lost our senses?
The last 1000 years have been the most devastating for our nation. Our secularism was polluted by the ‘divide and rule’ colonists. Our greed and ego got us to forget the very founding principles on which we built the most prosperous nation in the world. We were secular not only to the religions but to genders as well. Men and women were equal. We were an example for the world to look up to.
I come from a family that considers women very high. I worship my mother and look-up to my sisters. I have always been an admirer and supporter of women who show courage and fight in times of adversity. I would rather say a woman is a “highly sophisticated” being. And she has been denied the experience of exploring herself. And man has just touched the surface of her personality. I won’t say I understand them very well, they are so confusing, and that makes them so beautiful.
Is there anything more beautiful than a woman? You can think of her from many different perspectives; physical to psychological to spiritual; she is still beautiful; all the way. Like a bird, she is all the more beautiful when set free. And to all the guys out there, there is no need to understand a woman, just know that she is beautiful and protect her.
On an ending note:
A little bit about the video, I shot this film when I was on a holiday in Kolhapur (The place where I was born). I tracked down this group which had a lot of girls practicing the Indian Martial Art known as “Mardani Khel”. Since the art is getting lesser and lesser attention, I thought of making a video on it. I had all the gear at my Studio in Pune; so I decided to shoot this with a simple Sony Handycam that I was able to ‘Jugaad’ somehow. Unfortunately, we were able to shoot at only one location due to heavy rains. Do show your appreciation or critics in form of comments and likes and of course shares. Looking forward to comments from the dynamic Rodinhoods Community. (And please watch it in HD)
